Dubbed “The Varsity Sport for the Mind,” FRC combines the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology. Under strict rules, limited resources, and time limits, teams of 25 students or more are challenged to raise funds, design a team “brand”, hone teamwork skills, and build and program robots to perform prescribed tasks against a field of competitors. It’s as close to “real-world” engineering as a student can get.
Students on the VCHS Robotics Team work alongside professional engineers and mentors to build and compete with a robot of their own design. They utilize sophisticated hardware and software to develop skills in design, project management, programming, teamwork, and strategic thinking. Students can choose to engage in robot constructions (mechanical/electrical), CAD, programming, public relations, competition strategy, or financial management.
FRC Season Overview
The EPIC Robotz (Team 4415) and potential team members meet twice a week in the fall preseason to train and prepare for the official FRC robot build season from January to March.
