Valley Christian High School
Welcome to Valley Christian High School! Our goal at VCHS is to educate the whole student, academically, spiritually and physically. We strive to equip each unique student to make a difference in the world for Jesus Christ. We have approximately 650 students in 9th through 12th grade - large enough to offer a wide variety of opportunities, yet small enough that students can be involved in more than just one extracurricular activity. Academic Growth: Students receive an outstanding education that prepares them for any college they aspire to. 100% of graduates are academically qualified to attend college, and >97% do (the rest go to tech/trade/vocational schools, military, or into the workforce). Nearly 20% of our senior class receives acceptances to the prestigious University of California (UC) system. VCHS students who were admitted to "UC" schools continue to outscore all other LA/Orange County Christian schools in SAT performance (
click here to see!). Compared to area public schools, the average score of all VCHS juniors and seniors taking the 2007 SAT TEST was a combined math and verbal score of 1616 - higher than all Long Beach and Los Alamitos schools (
see these comparison tables). VCHS graduates are accepted into top universities including Princeton, Cornell, UC Berkeley, UCLA, USC, Swarthmore, MIT, Claremont, and US Military Academies, as well as the finest Christian colleges like Hope, Calvin and Westmont. We offer a wide range of UC-approved Honors and Advanced Placement (AP) courses. We also offer a track for students who plan to begin their college education at a JC, technical or trade school. An Academic Support Center provides professional assistance to students with learning difficulties. We are very excited about our new state-of-the-art science and math building currently under construction.
Bottom line: Valley Christian equips a wide range of students to successfully achieve their goals.
Spiritual Growth : Following the reformed tradition of education, we believe and teach how God is actively involved in every subject and facet of life. Students take a one semester Bible course each year, and attend weekly chapels with student-led worship and inspiring guest speakers. Hundreds of students also choose to participate in weekly lunch time Bible studies led by faculty members. We provide opportunities for short term missions trips and local outreach which serves the needy and challenges our students to be doers of the Word and not hearers only.
Athletic Growth : Nearly 70% of our students participate in 8 CIF sports for girls and 9 for boys. Our considerable success includes over 150 league championships, 40 CIF championships, 3 state titles, and yes, even 1 national championship (1999 USA Today #1 ranked girl's volleyball team in the nation). Our graduates have received scholarships to powerhouses including UCLA and USC, and some have made it to the pros.
Social Growth : We offer a wide range of extracurricular activities including many clubs, student government, mixers & dances, yearbook and school newspaper staffs, and international travel offered by Foreign Language, Science, and Social Studies departments.
Community Service : Our graduation requirement that each student performs at least 60 hours of community service during their 4 years of high school helps students to understand and appreciate the importance of sharing God's love through meaningful service. We offer many avenues of service to develop habits and patterns of servant-hood which are important Christian virtues. This is also a significant selection criteria that colleges and universities consider when selecting students for admission.
Accreditation: VCHS has been accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) since 1965 and is a member of California Interscholastic Federation (CIF), Christian Schools International, College Entrance Examination Board, NASSP Division of Student Activities and the National Honor Society.
