This Friday, 5/4, all K-12 students will be dismissed at noon and bus routes will begin immediately following dismissal. VCES staff will be hosting the elementary ACSI Speech meet for local private schools at the VCHS campus. Our VCHS students have the All Campus Day of Service on 5/4.
At last Thursday's Society meeting, Tia Fieldhouse, Harry Prins, Jr., Joel Slenk, and Kelly Tien were elected as board members, and the 2012-2013 budget was approved. Thank you to the board nominees for their willingness to be considered, and to all who attended or submitted absentee ballots. Special thanks to our retiring board members Bill Mulder, Ken Solomon, Cindy Tanis, and re-elected board member Kelly Tien. Special thanks to Ken Solomon for his 7 years of service on the board.
Tonight, VCMS will hold an Admissions Information Tour. Christian Middle School can make a great impact on a student’s life. The next stages of our iPad program begin in the fall. Be sure to invite your friends with 6th or 7th grade students to come and check us out tonight, 4/30 at 7 pm.
Ticket Deadline – it’s not too late to purchase tickets for the VCS Comedy Event Fundraiser! Come enjoy an evening of fun and laughter for the whole family while supporting VCS! Michael Jr. is a new Valley Christian Schools parent as well as a gifted comedian. He will perform two shows on Friday, May 11, sharing a large percentage of the proceeds with the VCS Financial Aid and Tuition Assistance program. All tickets are general admission.

- Discounted Tickets for VC students to attend either the 6:30 or 8:30 show are available for purchase through VCS only, for $10. Download a student ticket order form at www.vcschools.org/michaeljr or pick one up in any campus office for your student tickets and submit by Friday, 5/4.

The Class of 2012 of Valley Christian High School proudly presents The Curious Savage, a comedy in three acts by John Patrick at the Bellflower Civic Auditorium on Thursday, 5/10 and Saturday, 5/12, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the high school office beginning on Tuesday, 5/1 for $5 (general presale) or on the night of the performance for $10.
VCS is offering a variety of summer camps for high school through preschool age children in fine arts, athletics and academics. A complete list and registration forms are available to download at www.vcschools.org/summercamps.
Join us for the VCS Special Event & Tour at the USS Midway Aircraft Carrier in San Diego on Saturday, May 19, from 7:30 am to 4 pm. We’ll hear the High School Band and Orchestra performing on the deck of the Midway at 11 am, and enjoy a Private Guided Tour provided by Superintendent Rich Suttie who served on the Midway for one year. Special group ticket pricing is available at $10 for adults and $6 for children ages 6-17. To register, fill out the form available at www.vcschools.org/midway by Tuesday, 5/15 and send payment separately to the Business Office. Group transportation will be provided if there is sufficient interest.
Many of our students received awards at the Lakewood Artist's Guild student art show. Congratulations to Special award winner VCHS senior Cassie Palmer and to VCHS students: Rachel Perrigan, Amber Ansdell, Blake Roberto, Steven White, Jacob Edwards, Kacie Hauer, Elizabeth Bayardo and VCMS students: Nolan Bruesehoff, Abbey Che, Ashley Dirkson, Trent De Groot, Kerrine Harrington, Trisha Howland, Somi Kwan, Brian Lee, Anna Paradiso, and Matt Wong.
Parent Service Hours Opportunity: Volunteers are needed tonight, April 30 to help with a mailing project at 6 pm in the High School College and Career Center. Please contact Lindsey Punt at 562/860-0556 x244 if you are available to help.
The Alumni Baseball Game will be held on Thursday, 5/3 at 7 pm. Batting practice at 5 pm. Please contact Erick Streelman at estreelman@vcschools.org for more information.
Support VCS through School Cents by bringing your e-waste to the collection site at the Cerritos Mall this weekend, 5/5-6, in the lot south of Allen Tire, between 9 am and 4 pm. VCS will receive 2000 points for items with a 4" or larger screen. You may also drop off other items but points are only given for screen items. Print the
e-waste form at www.vcschools.org/schoolcents or pick one up at any campus and bring it with your items to the designated parking lot.
The used uniform sale will be held Saturday, June 16, from 8 am – 12 in the High School Gym. Many volunteers are needed to assist with the uniform collection on Thursday 6/14, and the sale on Saturday 6/16. Additionally, a volunteer is needed who can work from home preparing tags and other items. If you would like to sign up to volunteer, contact Charlene at 714-404-8668.
Host Homes Needed: New next school year, the VCS Host Family Program will offer quality accommodations in loving, Christian homes for our international students. If you were unable to attend the VCS Robotics informational meeting, and would like to receive information about the VCS Robotics FLL Team for ages 9-14, please email info@vcsrobotics.com. The next sale of Parents’ Association Shirts/Sweatshirts will take place at the VCES Art Show on Thursday, 5/17.

Reminder: For safety reasons, preschoolers are to wear only closed toe shoes with socks, even in the summer months.
The preschool children are helping to care for God's big world by recycling! Please bring plastic bottles (caps removed) and cans. On Friday 5/4, we will walk to the local recycling center and watch the process of how our items are collected and recycled. Volunteers are needed to join our trip! Please contact Ms. Angie.
We are asking for donations for our Mommy and Grammy Tea. If you would like to help in any way, please sign up on the Tea Table near the walk in gate. The Tea is Friday 5/11 at 10 am.
Thank you everyone that made our Little Crusader Garden a success! The seeds, plants, soil and watering cans donated have caused such wonderful learning in the minds of our children. We have lettuce, tomatoes, strawberries, carrots, zucchini and basil growing in our garden as you walk in. Cooking projects are coming up soon!

Reminder: Children may not wear open toe shoes to school for safety reasons.
Sports Day will be on Tuesday, June 12. Volunteer letters will go home next Monday.
The VCES Talent Show will be held at the high school chapel on Thursday, 5/24, at 6:30 p.m. Students in grades 1 - 6 are welcome to participate. Information and entry forms are being sent home today with students.

College Prep Camp: June 12-16, 2012 Located in Pinecrest, California, and just three hours from San Francisco and Sacramento, this is an exciting and affordable college search and application workshop for rising high school juniors and seniors. This is put on by UC Berkeley and Cal's historic Lair of the Golden Bear alumni camp. The cost is $695 and includes all instruction, food, and lodging. They also offer a sponsorship program. Scrip News: This week kicks off our new Scrip year! Start earning a rebate for the 2013/2014 school year by using Scrip for your purchases of gas, grocery, retail and food cards. Your rebate will add up quickly and it will help reduce your tuition!

- “Live” Sales: Our office hours are every Tuesday and Thursday from 8-9:30 am at VCMS. Drop off orders at VCES, VCMS and the Business Office every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday by 9 am and your order will be returned to the campus office for students to bring home that day.
Camp Dunamis - a fun Christian camp for middle school youth, is now accepting camper registrations. Forms can be picked up in the middle school and elementary school offices. Host Homes are Needed for Summer International Opportunity, July 22-August 10: Share your home and culture with a young girl from Japan this summer! The students attend classes at VCMS during the weekdays. Please contact Kathy at 562/239-7056 for more details.
