Valley Christian Schools Summer Camps 2013
VCS is offering a variety of summer camps for high school through preschool age children in fine arts, athletics and academics. Camps in Academics, and Fine Arts are listed below. If you have questions about the camps below, please contact the individual camp instructors. Fine Arts and Academic camp registration forms are available for download and are due with payment to the Business Office by Wednesday, June 5. Registration is available on a first-come, first-served basis. If a course does not have a minimum number of registrations, the session will be cancelled and you will receive a refund. As room is available, late registration will be accepted up to the first day of camp. The course instructor will send you an e-mail to confirm attendance, and provide any additional details.

Books Alive!
We will discuss our favorite books, read a good novel together, and listen to good literature read aloud. We will eat delicious snacks, dress up like our favorite book characters, read, read, read and do some creative arts and crafts to accompany our book selection. We will look at literary elements and perhaps even try rewriting the ending to some of our favorites. Cost of supplies for treats and crafts is included in cost of camp. Clay Cupcakes
This hands-on two week class will teach the basics of hand-built ceramics while creating cupcake themed art! Be inspired by these delicious treats as we make mini cupcake sculptures, cupcake jars, and wall hangings. Ceramics is easy to learn with no previous art experience needed. There is no class on Fridays. Make sure to bring a picture of a cupcake to the first class. Cost of supplies is included in cost of camp. Summer Salads and Sweets
This four-day cooking class is focused on creating an assortment of summer themed food. Make a custom vinegarette, learn a fun twist on decorating cupcakes, fill mini tarts with fresh fruit, and more! Plus, students get to sample every delicious recipe. Instructor:

STEM (Science-Technology-Engineering-Math) Week: We encourage students to bring a lunch and stay all day. Sign up for both classes!
I Need My Space
Engage in daily “make and take” activities to learn more about Robotics, Space Exploration, the Moon and Mars, and Living and Working on the International Space Station. Get all the Space you need! Robotics Camp
Ever program a robot? During camp, students will learn the fundamentals of programming using the Mindstorms NXT robotics system. Students will be divided into groups of two, given a simple robot to build, and learn the basic NXT blocks along with programming sequences. They will use a computer to develop their own programs for various robot challenges. Light, touch, and ultrasonic sensors will be used to enhance program capabilities. No previous experience with LEGO or NXT is necessary. All equipment will be provided. Instructors: VC Robotics Coaches, Date: July 15-19, Time: 12pm-3, Grades: 4-6, Cost: $75, Location: VCES: Room 13
Math Blasters
This class will help reinforce math concepts that your student learned the previous year in school, and help prepare them for the coming year. The class will include hands-on activities, iPads, math games, teacher-led small groups and individual work. Note the grade levels offered in the sessions below.

Summer Scrapbooking
This class will teach the basics of scrap booking, including safe photo supplies, layout design, color design, journaling, organization, etc. Mrs. Bassett will give lessons each day and then guide the students in creating beautiful pages. Cost of supplies is included in camp cost. Instructor: Mrs. Staci Bassett, Date: July 29- August 2, Location: VCES Room 5, Time: 8:30am-11 and/or 12pm-3, Grades: 2-8, Cost: $90 each or $145 for both
Fishing with Mr. V
We will learn about saltwater and freshwater fishing. Learn how to cast spinning and conventional reels, this will culminate in a casting contest. We will learn how to fish with live bait and artificial lures. We will practice putting different kinds of bait on a hook, and practice tying knots. We will dissect a squid. We will also spend some time learning about California fishing regulations and conservation. On Friday you will have the option to go out fishing on a chartered boat. Going on the fishing boat will cost $100 for the student and their adult guest. This is a great price for a ¾ day trip for two people. The fishing trip is optional and should be paid to Mr. Vander Dussen during the week of class. There may be room for extra passengers ($50 a person) depending on how many sign up for the class and how many are going fishing. SAT Prep Essay Writing
This class will help students raise their grade on the Essay portion of the SAT. Students will learn to interpret the essay prompts; to write on-topic essays that are well-structured and well-argued, using highly effective examples; to use excellent grammar and sentence structure; and overall, to improve the degree to which their writing meets the expectations of the SAT graders. There will be in-class writing as well as take-home writing assignments each day, so this will be an intensive course. Jazz Camp-Middle School
For students with 2+ years instrument experience. Participants will learn and perform an assortment of jazz big band and combo charts. Students will also learn about improvising solos and understanding scales and chords. All music will be provided. Students should bring their own instruments, needed supplies and accessories. Lights, Camera, Write!
Make your story come to life during this one week class. We will work together to create wonderful stories. We will then bring our stories to life by creating movie trailers using iMovie on classroom iPads. The last day of class we will walk the red carpet as we have a Premiere Showing of your movie trailers. Tasty Math
This class will combine math with cooking. Students will have fun and get messy as they create meals using a variety of math skills. Students will add, subtract, measure, and divide in a fun atmosphere. They will not even realize they are learning so much! Cost of supplies is included in camp cost. Discover VCMS
VCMS 7th grade teacher Mr. Tiersma will help students discover the best ways to succeed through organization, time management, study strategies, and much more. This class is a great place to learn more about VCMS and meet new people before the year even begins! Crusader Band Camp

Kinder-Eighth Grade Day Camp
Day Camp for students entering grades K-8 includes field trips, fun on-campus days, and academics that reinforce math and reading skills! Preschool Day Camp
We invite our preschoolers to attend the Summer Session of preschool, which is held for 8 weeks, from June 24-August 16. We will be meeting on the Park Church Campus for summer day camp. There will be a continued focus on academics, science, multicultural studies and exciting on-campus events. Hours during the summer remain the same as September to June, 6:30 am-6 pm. There is a $50 registration fee, and tuition cost is the same per month as the year-round school tuition per month. Director: Mrs. Angie Colclasure.
