Student Dress Code

High School Dress Code

Uniform Guidelines - (See more info regarding uniforms)

  1. All students will dress in the contracted school uniform from True Grits for Valley Christian High School when in attendance during the regular school day which begins "0" Period 7:00 AM through 3:30 PM.
  2. Girls will wear the contracted uniform for girls and boys the contracted uniform for boys. (No Dickies or Dockers, etc. will be allowed.)
  3. Alterations to the uniform are unacceptable, i.e.: shortening skirts, rolling, altering or adding to the uniform (examples scarves).
  4. A solid colored shirt may be worn UNDERNEATH the contracted uniform. Shirts worn beneath the uniform shirt must be tucked in.
  5. White, oxford shirts must be tucked in.
  6. Belts will be worn with pants or shorts with belt loops. Belts should be plain and one color.
  7. Clothing must fit.
    • Shirts should not be purchased which are too short or tight.
    • Boys should not purchase pants that are excessively large.
  8. Students may NOT wear anything that is not part of the contracted uniform from True Grits.
    • No personal tee shirts allowed.
    • Team sports uniforms or warm-ups will NOT be worn anytime during the period from 7:00 AM through 3:30 PM. On game days, students may, if the athletic director authorizes it, wear an alternative polo or dress shirt. This is on game days only.
    • No sweats, jeans or jogging warm-ups will be worn underneath the uniform.

Earrings, Body Piercing, and Tattoos (applies in school and at after school activities)

  • Boys--No Earings or Body Piercing
  • Girls--Earrings in ears only, No Body Piercing.
  • No visible tattoos for boys or girls.

Fieldtrips

  • All students will stay in uniform during any and all field trips, and school sponsored activities, unless the school announces otherwise.
  • Examples of field trips during which the school would not require uniforms include the senior trip, service days, Special Games, etc.

Footwear

  • No bare feet.
  • Students may wear any style that they prefer with the exception of bedroom slippers.
  • Teachers will inform students of footwear requirements that are to be followed in specific classes (i.e. Science classes, Woodworking, Physical Education)

Hair

  • Boys:
    • Boys' hair should be clean and well groomed and no longer than collar length.
    • No hair hanging over the collar, in the eyes, razor shaved portions, ponytails, unnatural hair color, or extreme styles.
    • No beards, mustaches, goatees, or excessively long side burns.
  • Girls:
    • Girls' hair is to be clean, well groomed and in a simple style.
    • No extreme hairstyles, razor shaved portions or completely shaved or extreme hair coloring.

Hats, Headwear and Sunglasses

  • Baseball style caps only.
  • No bandannas for boys or girls.
  • Only hats with a Valley Christian logo may be worn during the shcool day.
  • Hats are not to be worn in the buildings or during class time.
  • Hats are to be worn correctly (not sideways or backswards).
  • Sunglasses are not to be worn in the buildings or during class time.
  • Caps or sunglasses worn in the building will be taken away until the end of the quarter.

Jackets/Outerwear

  • Students may wear a jacket (sweatshirts that button or zip are considered a jacket) of their choosing that does not advertise secular rock groups, drugs, sex, or offensive material.
  • Reminder: Shirts are not jackets.
  • No blankets will be allowed.

Spirit Days

  • Students are not required to wear the school uniform on announced spirit days if they dress to the theme.

Sweatshirts

  • Pullover sweatshirts must be from True Grits or from one of Valley Christian's support organizations.

The following are not allowed:

  • Any clothing that advertises secular rock groups, alcohol, drugs, and sex or offensive material.
  • Revealing sleeveless, tank, halter, crop, spaghetti strap, low-cut, off the shoulder or revealing tops; sheer or see-through blouses.
  • Short skirts (shorter than 4 inches above the knee) or short shorts (shorter than mid thigh) on girls.
  • Shirts and blouses that allow skin to show at the waist.
  • Skin tight clothing.
  • Clothing with holes.
  • All sheer or see-through skirts/dresses with out a slip.
  • Underwear showing on male or female students.
  • Fishnet stockings.
  • Camouflage

Uniform Violation Disciplinary Actions

1st Offense -- Will result in a Discipline Hours/demerit.
2nd Offense -- Will result in a Saturday School.
3rd Offense -- Will result in a one day, off campus, Suspension. A parent
conference will be held upon the student's return.
4th Offense -- Will result in Expulsion.

Outside of the School Day (After 3:30 PM)

Students are not required to wear the shcool uniform to athletic events, dances and other outside of the school day activities. However, a DRESS CODE applies to these activities.

Students who break the code will not be allowed into the event, may be asked to leave the event and/or may face consequences from the administration in the school days that follow the event. Potential consequences include demerits, faults, and loss of privileges to attend future outside of school activities.

POLICY REGARDING ELECTRONIC DEVICES
The use of electronic devices such as pages, phones, games, radios, and compact disc players is not allowed on campus during the school day (8:15 AM-2:45 PM). If observed, these items are subject to confiscation.
