10 Hours: Local Church
Every member of the freshman class is required to complete 10 hours of service during their 9th grade year. Ideally these hours should be completed within a local church ministry, but we allow students to serve with other agencies if their church does not offer service opportunities.
Deadline: June 1, 9th Grade Year
40 Hours in the Community
What: Every student will complete a 40 hour service project sometime during their sophomore / junior years.
When: Students may complete these 40 hours anytime between June of their Freshman year and May of their Junior year. What we want is for each student to find an area of service that connects with their interests and gifts.
Where: A student may serve with any organization whose purpose is to bring help and health to an area of God’s creation. Students are free to work with a local church as long as the project extends out to the greater community.
Examples: Homeless Shelters, Retirement Homes, Environmental Agencies, Developmentally Disabled, Coaching Youth Sports, Affordable Housing, Tutoring, Health Care, Literacy Programs, Community Arts Programs, Guide Dog Training, Animal Shelters, City Parks, Local Government, Museums, Zoos, Voter Registration, Aquariums, National Parks and Mission Trips.
Deadline: June 1, 11th Grade Year
10 Hours: See Agency List
Each member of the senior class will complete 10 hours of community service. They may begin the service once they have completed their 40 hours Soph/Junior Proejct. Seniors must complete their 10 Hours prior to the Senior Trip and Ditch Day in order to participate in those activities.
Deadline: The Third Friday in May
Step One: Print or download a Timesheet also located above and have an agency representative sign off the hours as they are served.
Step Two: When you have completed your service project, drop off the signed timesheet at the service office.
Final Step: Email a paragraph describing your project and one interesting story about your time of service to Mr. Westrup. Include a photo if you have one.
