    Congratulations and thanks to everyone who participated in Saturday's Admissions Open House events. Both events had lots of engagement from potential parents and lots of follow-up questions. 
    A very special thank you to the Knopps who cooked & served over 200 tacos at VCMS! We're so proud of our community for showing up, creating new ways to connect with potential families and just being VCS at it's best.

    Love and Logic: VC is offering a four week parenting class called Love and Logic. It will be taught by Superintendent, Ron Taylor and his wife Kathy. It will be held at VCES, Thursday nights from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. starting 2/9. The cost of the class is $35 per person or $65 per couple. Childcare is available. Registration and payment has been extended to Wednesday, 1/25. Contact Karen Garcia at 562-920-9902 or to sign up.

    Auction 2017: Have a favorite hobby, restaurant, or store? Please consider giving a $20 or more gift card for the Auction. Any donations are greatly appreciated. All school families and friends of VCS are invited to our largest fundraiser of the year. It will be on Friday, 3/31 at the Sheraton in Cerritos. Questions?     Broadway Showcase 2017 Updates!

    Due to Finals Week at VCHS, there is no Broadway Showcase rehearsal this week Monday (1/23) or Tuesday (1/24) for High School Students.

    Middle School and Elementary School students will rehearse as usual.

    This Thursday, 1/26, High School Closer Rehearsal begin at 5:30 p.m. in the VCHS Music Room.

    For High School Specialties: due to a scheduling conflict with the VCHS Chapel, Specialty Rehearsal (Jet Set, Stronger, and Nothing Like a Dame) has been changed from Tuesday, 1/31 to Wednesday, 2/1, for next week ONLY. Rehearsals will return to Tuesdays the following week of 2/7

    Rehearsal times remain the same:

    • Jet Set--Wednesday, 2/1, 5:00-6:30 p.m.
    • Stronger--Wednesday, 2/1, 6:30-8:00 p.m.
    • Nothing Like a Dame--Wednesday, 2/1, 8:00-9:00 p.m.

    Elementary and Middle School Broadway Costumes Info Meeting

    Curious about what your child will be needing? Please come to an information costume meeting during your child’s regularly scheduled rehearsal in the courtyard by the High School chapel:

    • TK/K, Thursday, 2/2 at 3:45 p.m.
    • 1st-3rd, Thursday, 2/2 at 5:15 p.m.
    • 4th-6th, Thursday, 2/2 at 5:45 p.m.
    • Middle School, Monday, 2/6 at 5:30 p.m.

    High School Broadway Costumes
    All High school cast members will be informed of their costume requirements in class or during their regularly scheduled rehearsal.

    TK/K, Elementary, Middle and High School costume requirements will be posted on the Broadway Showcase website after Monday, 2/6 specified by their age group. A printed copy of the costume requirements will be available at every rehearsal as well. 

    January School Board Meeting has been moved to Wednesday, 1/25 to accommodate Cerritos City Council approval of the Event Center concept. 


    Preschool families can earn a credit towards their VCS tuition by using Scrip! Gas, Grocery, VISA and many retail and restaurants are available. Go to for more info.

    Math Olympics Tryout Dates at VCES at lunch time in Room 10 on the following days: 

    • 3rd Grade: Tuesday 1/31
    • 4th Grade: Wednesday 2/1
    • 5th and 6th Grade will take in class.
    • Make-up tests will be on Thursday, 2/2

    Service Hours Opportunity: Do you enjoy listening to students perform? Parents are needed as door monitors for the Fine Arts Festival runoffs on Wednesday, 2/15, 2:30-5:30 p.m. at the VCES campus. Please email the Middle School if you are available to help.
    Shake, Rattle & Roll: Valley Christian After School Science Club for grades K-6. Two classes are available for Wednesdays, 1/25, & 2/1, 2/8 and Thursdays, 1/26, 2/2, 2/9 from 3:00-4:00 p.m. Registration is open for the January-February. A digital copy of the registration form and information is available here. We hope this science program will inspire students to learn and marvel at God's handiwork in His creation. 
    Middle School

    8th Grade Parent Worldview Transition Meeting: Off to High School! Your child’s freshman year will be one full of transitions. We believe God created transitions and Scripture offers us insights about how we, as the body of Christ, may enter into and grow through such transitions. In this spirit, we invite every parent of a VC 8th grader to attend a special night and hear from Superintendent, Ron Taylor on Tuesday, 1/24 at 7:00 p.m. in the Middle School chapel.
    Students in Grades 3-8 are encouraged to try out for the Math Olympics.  Practice materials may be obtained. Tryouts are scheduled during lunch recess later in January. Grades 5th-8th see Mrs. Hermann. Email for information.

    Lost and Found: Is your student missing their jacket, uniform, lunch bag or shoes? Please have your child stop by the Lost and Found and see if they recognize any of their clothing. 
    Free Dress Fridays in February! Each Friday in February, VCMS will be participating in an optional fundraiser to support the VCS Auction. Each Friday, Middle Schoolers may purchase a $3 wristband in Advisement for Free Dress. The wristband will be good for that Friday only. Each Friday, Advisement teachers will have a different color wristband for sale. This is an optional fundraiser, and students may participate in all, some, or none of the days! Proceeds will be used to purchase prizes for the auction. Just a reminder - school dress code as described in the school handbook still applies!
    High School

    No School on Friday, 1/27 due to VCS Records Day

    VCHS Exams are this week, 1/23-1/26. 

    • Students should arrive on campus before 8:30 a.m, or between 10-10:30 a.m. While on campus, students will be required to be in a testing room or remain in the library for the duration of the testing period. If a student does not have an exam, he or she is not required to be on campus.
    • VCHS students are not allowed to visit other campuses until 2:45 p.m.
    • Individual exam schedules are distributed to students. You can view the Exam Schedule or see it at the VC Family Resources Website
    • The canteen will be closed during exams. Only vending machines will be available to purchase food.
    • Buses will run at regular times (8:05 a.m. morning drop off, 2:55 p.m. afternoon departure).
    • The library will be open until 3:00 p.m.
    • During the exam blocks 8:30-10:0 a.m. and 10:30-12:00 p.m., students may not enter or leave campus.
    • Uniforms must be worn during finals or students will not be allowed to take final exams.

    VCHS Handbells will Perform at the Disneyland Resort as part of Disneyland's Community Arts Showcase at California Adventure. The group will play on the Hollywood Backlot Stage at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, 1/27. Congratulations to these students for making the audition!  If you have a pass to the park, we invite you to come see these students perform.

    Senior Mixer:  Saturday, 1/28 from 5:00-7:00pm (*note the change in time) out on the football field for capture the flag and other games.  If you are able, please bring a snack to share!

    A Jostens Representative will be on Campus at Lunch Time on Tuesday, 1/31. All seniors will be receiving a mailing from Jostens with information about graduation items available for order. They will be measuring for caps and gowns (which are no charge to families) and they can take order forms at that time for additional graduation items that families choose to buy.     LAST CHANCE to Purchase a Senior Yearbook Ad is January 31. Senior Parents, Grandparents or Guardians, this is your final chance to to purchase and submit a senior ad for the back of the yearbook. After this date, Jostens will no longer be accepting submissions. Please view instructions mailed out to parents, or visit the yearbook page on the VCS website.

    Driver Education Class: Anyone interested in taking a Driver Education class at VCHS in February should stop by the high school office and pick up the flyer for more information. 

    "A Regal Affair", the VCHS Winter Dance, will be held on Saturday, 2/4 from 7:30-11:00 p.m. (the doors close at 8:30 pm) at The White House Event Center, 1238 S Beach Blvd Anaheim, CA 92804. 
    • Students must have a signed Winter Dance Form for each ticket purchased. They can be picked up an handed in at the High School office. 
    • Remember to send dress photos to the Dance Committee members at prior to February 3. Semi-Formal dress is required.

    Lightshine 2017 Presents "Plug In Wonder-Working Power," a contemporary concert under the direction of Kay VanWeerthuizen. Presentations will be held at Trinity Christian Reformed Church, 18718 Grayland Ave. Artesia, CA 90701. No tickets are required; for more information click here.

    Join us for the Concert, “A Taste of Southern Soul,” which will feature Octavius Womack, Caity Peters, Dan Davis and Katy Feller. This night of music will be on Friday, 1/27, at 7:00 p.m. at the William & Jane Bristol Civic Auditorium in Bellflower. Tickets are $20 and available online. Come out and support our VCS family!
