    Calling All Parents - We're looking to add several new or not-so-new parents to our Parents' Association team. Please read the email from our Interim Superintendent, Troy Stahl about opportunities to serve. We'd love your involvement!
     
    The VCHS Red Cross Blood Drive is on Tuesday, 8/27, 8:30 AM - 2:30 PM in the VCHS Legacy Chapel. All are invited to donate. Check in at the VCHS office anytime on Tuesday. Parent service hours: (3 hrs.) will be given for donations. Email Jeff Westrup at jwestrup@vcschools.org if you have any questions.
     
    The annual 5K Run/Walk will take place on Labor Day, Monday, 9/2 on the High School campus. Support the event and help fund the purchase of a new stadium sound system. The race begins at 8:00 AM, along with the Pancake Breakfast and Car Wash. Sign up now at vcathletics.net/laborday5k.  Volunteers are needed to assist with the event.     EPIC Robots invites everyone to LA Fleet Week, taking place at the Port of LA Friday, 8/30, through Labor Day, 9/2, 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM. The event includes ship tours, military displays, equipment demonstrations, live entertainment, aircraft flyovers, and a STEM Expo for kids. EPIC Robotz will be in action on Friday and Saturday.     VCHS Athletic Canteen needs you! Looking for a fun way to complete your service hours, please consider serving in the canteen. There are several dates and times to choose from.     Did You Know? You can view school events on our webpage at vcschools.org/calendar. The first calendar you see lists All School Events, but you can view the campus of your choice by selecting from the list above the calendar. More details can often be viewed by clicking on the event. You can even share the calendar with your own personal device by using the RSS or iCAL buttons on the top right hand corner of the calendar.

    VCS Families and friends are invited to the annual Harvest Festival on Friday, 9/20 at the VCHS campus. There will be games, food, fun and fellowship. Join us after school until 7:00 PM. Please contact Harvest@vcschools.org if you have any questions.

    Parent Service Hours Opportunity: Earn all 10 hours by picking up choice lunch from the Elementary Campus at 11:30 AM one day a week for the school year! Monday and Friday are available. Please see Mrs. Sara for more info or to sign up.
     

     

    Elementary School
     
     
    Back to School Night is Thursday, 8/22 at 6:30 PM with a repeat session at 7:15 PM. Parents of students in Band or Orchestra may meet with the music teachers at either 6:15 PM, between sessions or at 7:50 PM. Information on elementary athletics will also be available. Mark your calendar and plan to attend this informative evening. Please note this evening is for parents only; childcare is not provided.
     
    MAPS Testing for students in grades K-6th will be 8/26 - 9/6. Testing will be at various times throughout the day depending on the classroom schedule. Please make sure your student gets a good night's rest, eats breakfast and arrives at school on time.
     
    Spirit Day - Friday 8/30 - Hawaiian Day. Dress up in your favorite Hawaiian clothing. If you choose not to participate, please be in uniform.
     
    Staff/Bus Parking Lot: Parking is very limited in the staff/bus parking lot. If you are volunteering/visiting a classroom, please park on the street if possible, except on Tuesdays, which are street sweeping days.
     
    5th & 6th Grade Athletics: Boys Flag Football and Girls Basketball Try-outs will be held 3:00-4:30 PM on Tuesday, 9/10 - Thursday, 9/12 at the VCES campus. More information will be distributed at Back to School night and the beginning of September. We are in need of Boys Flag Football and Girls Basketball coaches. These are paid positions!     VCES Picture Day is Wednesday, 9/11. This will be a free dress day (no uniforms). Order envelopes were sent home with your child. If you wish to purchase school pictures, please send the completed order form with your child on 9/11.
     
     
     
     

     

    Middle School  
     
    Drop-off and Pick-up: Please pull all the way forward when you are dropping off and picking up. Make sure your child has all their belongs in hand, ready to exit the car.
     
    Back to School Night is Tuesday, 8/20 at 7:00 PM. Come meet the teachers and walk in the footsteps of your student.
    • 6:00-6:25 PM - Study Center Orientation (ONLY if your child is enrolled in Study Center (not study hall), please plan on attending an informational meeting in room 2)
    • 6:30-7:00 PM - Tech Time: iPad Help Desk available in the flex space. Feel free to check in with the tech team to be sure your child's iPad is set up and running properly!
    • 6:30-7:00 PM - Sports Meeting: A mandatory parent meeting for all Middle School cheer, football, and girls basketball players will be held in the chapel.
    • 7:00-7:20 PM - General Session with the principal will be held in the chapel.
    • 7:20-8:30 PM - Class walkthrough: Please bring a copy of your student's schedule and you can walk through their morning schedule and meet the teachers.
     
    Fall Sports Tryouts:
    • Flag Football tryouts, 3:00-4:45 PM on Monday, 8/26 - Wednesday, 8/28. Please bring practice clothes, mouth guard, & water. Cleats are recommended and required if the athlete makes the team.
    • Girls Basketball tryouts, 3:00-4:45 PM on Monday, 8/26-Wednesday, 8/28. Please bring practice clothes, tennis shoes and water.
     
    VCMS Picture Day is Thursday, 8/29. Students may wear a free dress top with uniform bottoms. Picture Day forms will be distributed at school prior to 8/29 and should be handed to the photographer.
     
     

     
     
    High School
     
     
    Back to School Night is tonight! Monday, 8/19 at 7:00 PM. A letter was mailed home which includes your student’s schedule and a map of the campus. Please bring the letter with you. If you have not received the letter, please arrive early and pick up a copy at the High School Office. The evening will begin promptly at 7:00 PM with parents attending their student’s classes. There are additional sessions you may also attend:
    • PowerSchool and Tech questions from 6:30-7:00 in the library.
    • Wilderness Challenge Rock and Surf Classes meeting at 6:30 in the Legacy Chapel.
    • Student Service Learning Program at 8:50 in the chapel.
    • Cross Country Parent Meeting at 8:50 in the music room (C32)

     
    High School Robotics New Member Orientation Meeting Tuesday, 8/20, 7:00 PM. The high school robotics program will be holding an orientation meeting for all interested students and parents who are new to the high school robotics program. The meeting will be held at the high school on Tuesday, 8/20, at 7:00 PM, in room B18. Students and parents transitioning from the FLL robotics program should attend.     High School Robotics Returning Members and Parents Meeting, Tuesday, 8/20, 7:00 PM. Veterans and parents of prior EPIC Robotz teams are invited to a planning meeting being held Tuesday, 8/20, at 7:00 PM, in room B19. This meeting is intended for veteran team members and their parents only. If you'd like input for the fall robotics season, please be sure to attend.     VCHS Europe 2020 Parent Meeting on Tuesday, 9/3: If you've been dreaming about traveling to Europe with your family or sending your child on the trip of a lifetime, you'll soon have your chance to live the dream! In the summer of 2020, Valley Christian High School students and their families will have the opportunity to travel to 4 different countries in Europe and see the amazing cities of Amsterdam in the Netherlands, Lucerne in Switzerland, Berlin in Germany and Prague in the Czech Republic just to name a few. If you would like to learn more about this amazing trip and how you can afford it, come to the Parent Meeting on Sept 3rd in Mr. Rhodes' room C31 at 6:30 PM. 
     
    Daily Schedule: This week the High School will begin the typical weekly bell schedules that you can view by visiting vcschools.org/hsresources and selecting “Daily Schedule”. Please note that on Wednesdays, school starts at 8:30 AM and ends at 2:15 PM. Buses run at the same time every day.
     
    Madrigals Birthday Singing Telegrams fundraiser. Celebrate your student by having the Madrigals choir personally sing to them and deliver a plate of goodies during their 2nd period class. Even if they had a summer birthday - it’s not too late. Please contact Darlene Maynard at maynardsoc@live.com or 562-225-7710.
     
    Senior parents - All seniors are asked to have a Senior Portrait taken at Classic Image, our school photographer, to be put in the yearbook. If you were not able to schedule your Senior Portrait appointment during the summer, please do so as soon as possible by calling 562-865-3636. There will be a $40 sitting fee and an option to buy more prints. Senior portraits will need to be taken by early October or their ID card photo will be used in the yearbook instead.
     
    Counseling News:
     
    Senior Parent Meeting (parents only): Please join us for Senior Parent Night on Thursday, 9/5 from 6:45-7:45 PM in the VCHS Legacy Chapel. Plan to come and hear how you can support your senior student through the college application process. The presentation will cover what to expect and how to prepare for a successful senior year. A question and answer time will be held at the conclusion of the meeting. Hope to see you there!     2019 Alumni Athletes - If you were on the boys volleyball team, boys soccer team, and track team last year, the Championship plaques have arrived in the Athletics Office, please come and pick them up.

    Affordable Treasures Thrift Store now has a truck to come and pick up your donations. Please call the store at 562-866-0060 and speak with Ashlee Brewer to schedule a pick up! They also have a blue bin located in front of Building B at Valley Christian High School for clothing and shoes donations.
