    Valley Christian Elementary is excited to host our September online auction! The auction and your participation will help us update some of our playground equipment. Items available, UCLA, Angels and Carrie Underwood tickets. Auction ends Tuesday, 9/10 at noon.     Here are the VCS Board Highlights from the 8/29 meeting.
    ThankScriping Day is Thursday, 9/12. It only happens 3 times a year, so get online and you can earn up to 21% on eGift cards and reloads from 60+ brands just in time for fall shopping.     Parent service hours opportunity - Saturday, 9/14, 6:30 AM - Service Learning Homeless Breakfasts. On the second Saturday of each month VCHS teams with our friends at Kingdom Causes and Calvary Baptist Church (14722 Clark Ave, Bellflower) to prepare, serve and eat breakfast with some of our homeless neighbors. VCHS students, parents and graduates are welcome. Service hours are available for students and parents. Please contact Jeff Westrup at if you have any questions!
    VCHS Athletic Canteen needs you! Looking for a fun way to complete your service hours? Please consider serving in the canteen. There are several dates and times to choose from.     VCS Families and friends are invited to the annual Harvest Festival on Friday, 9/20 at the VCHS campus. There will be games, food, fun and fellowship. Join us after school until 7:00 PM. Please contact if you have any questions or go to
    VCS Harvest Festival Vendor's Row: Do you make your own unique items, serve as a consultant for a direct sales company, or own a business you would like to promote to the VCS community? Then you should consider participating in Vendor's Row at our annual Harvest Festival. We are using a Google Form for registration this year. Please click here for all the details and registration!
    VCS Harvest Festival request for sponsors: Harvest Festival is seeking 25 booth sponsors to donate $125 sponsorships so that all proceeds from the festival can be directed toward teachers and classroom support. Please contact for more information.

    Parent Service Hours Opportunity: Earn all 10 hours by picking up Choice Lunch from the Elementary Campus at 11:30 AM one day a week for the school year! Monday and Friday are available. Please see Mrs. Sara for more info or to sign up.
    Grandparents Day sign-ups are now available on the table in the preschool playground. Volunteers are needed for set up, service, and clean-up. We will also be taking donations for special treats and beverages. Thanks in advance for your support and willingness to help!
    Grandparents Day will be on Friday, 9/20 at 10:00 AM! All Grandparents, Adopted Grandparents, or Special Friends are invited to join us for a program put on by the preschool children in the Church Sanctuary and then enjoy special treats on the playground the children.
    VCPS will host chapel each week on Wednesday morning from 8:45 - 9:15 AM. During this time we will teach the children about giving and take a special collection that will be used at Christmas time to purchase items for Eucalyptus Christmas through Encounter Church.
    Signing In/Out: Please remember to sign your child in each morning at drop off and out again each afternoon at pick-up!
    Children's files: should be checked everyday! Please remember to check your child's file for important papers.
    Picture Days are Tuesday, 9/17 and Wednesday, 9/18 from 9:00 - 10:30 AM.


    Elementary School
    Parenting the Love and Logic Way Class started on Thursday, 9/5. VCS is offering a six-week presentation on Parenting the Love and Logic Way, presented by Dawn De Young and Sarah Hefner. It will be held at VCES on Thursday nights from 6:30-8:30 PM, Sept. 12, 19, 26 Oct. 3, 10 and 17. The cost is $35 per person or $55 per couple and includes a workbook.     Harvest Festival - Kids' Cheer Clinic for 1st - 6th grade will be held 9/16 - 9/19 from 3:00-5:00 PM on the High School Campus. They will perform at the football game on Friday, 9/20 at 7:00 PM. Please fill out this form by Friday, 9/13.
    The Cookie Dough, Magazine & Yankee Candle fundraiser will finish Wednesday, 9/11. Information was sent home with your child on 8/28.
    • A Fundraiser Coordinator is needed to take over the Cookie Dough/Magazine Sale fundraiser for the 2020-21 school year. Service hours do apply. Please call the school office if interested at 562-920-9902.
    4th Grade - Walk Through California, Wednesday, 10/9.
    Staff/Bus Parking Lot: Parking is very limited in the staff/bus parking lot. If you are volunteering/visiting a classroom, please park on the street if possible, except on Tuesdays, which are street sweeping days.
    TKTC at VCES! Musical Theatre & Improv Workshop! This fall for the first time ever, The Kids Theatre Company is coming to Valley Christian! The class will engage students in performance-based theatre games, team building exercises and auction techniques. Each week they will be casting and rehearsing to perform select scenes and songs from blockbuster shows! (Those participating in the Cheer Clinic may also register for the TKTC workshop even though they overlap.) Registration information can be found here. 
    5th & 6th Grade Athletics: Boys Flag Football and Girls Basketball Tryouts will be held 3:00-4:30 PM on Tuesday, 9/10 - Thursday, 9/12 at the VCES campus. More information will be distributed at the beginning of September. We are in need of Boys Flag Football and Girls Basketball coaches. These are paid positions!     VCES Picture Day is this Wednesday, 9/11. This will be a free dress day (no uniforms). Order envelopes will be sent home with your child today. If you wish to purchase school pictures, please send the completed order form with your child on 9/11.
    Southern California Sensory Screening on Friday, 9/13 - Students in grades TK, K, 2nd & 5th for vision and hearing, and 1st grade boys for colorblindness at no charge. Information was sent home with studens. If you would like your child screened for any additional tests or are in a grade other than what is listed above, please fill out and return this additional testing form.
    Grandparents Day will be held on Friday, 9/20 at VCES. Invite your grandparents or adopted grandparents to arrive at 1:30 PM to enjoy some ice cream and fun activities with their grandchildren, attend the Harvest Festival at VCHS beginning at 3:00 PM and end the day with a lot of cheering at the VCHS football game.     Middle School  
    Parent Service Hours Opportunity. The Middle School is looking to have 2-3 hours of gardening help on a Saturday morning this fall. It would involve trimming some bushes and general yard clean up. We would greatly appreciate hearing from you at

    High School
    Come help support our Scholastic Arts Association scholarship fund through our popcorn sales at our Friday night football games. Scholastic Arts Association promotes scholarship, leadership, character and service among Valley Christian High School students. SAS sponsors our National Honors activities, luncheon, and hosts the annual Scholastic Arts ceremony, and AWARDS scholarships each year to our High School seniors.
    Mark Your Calendars! Wednesday, 10/16 is Testing Day. Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors will be taking standardized tests and will finish sometime around noon. There is no school for Seniors that day, which makes it a great day to visit colleges and work on applications.
    Senior parents - All seniors are asked to have a senior portrait taken at Classic Image, our school photographer, to be put in the yearbook. If you were not able to schedule your senior portrait appointment during the summer, please do so as soon as possible by calling 562-865-3636. There will be a $40 sitting fee and an option to buy more prints. Senior portraits will need to be taken by early October or their ID card photo will be used in the yearbook instead.

    City of Lakewood College Fair on Tuesday, 10/15 from 6:00-8:00 PM The Centre, 5000 Clark Avenue, Lakewood. Come and meet college and university reps and learn about admissions and campus Life.     Attention VCHS Class of 1989. We will be celebrating our 30 year class reunion on 10/18 & 10/19, which is also Valley Christian's Homecoming Celebration. Friday night is the Valley Christian football game at 7:00 PM where you can join other alumni and get special recognition for your 30 year reunion. On Saturday evening, 10/19, we will celebrate at Ballast Point in Long Beach from 6:00 to 10:00 PM.
