    School Mascot. On Friday, April 13 the new Valley Christian Mascot was announced in a middle school/high school assemble. When we resume school in August we will be the Valley Christian Defenders. The Board of Directors is grateful for our Valley Christian community's participation in the voting process.

    Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week will be celebrated this week across all of the VC campuses. We will be honoring our teachers and staff by providing an Italian themed luncheon and providing snacks and treats in the teacher’s lounges all week. There are many ways to help at each of the campuses. Please check your campus announcements to find out how to help.
     
    The Annual VCS Society Meeting will be held on Thursday, 4/19 in the Legacy Chapel, located on the High School campus, at 7:00 PM. Go to www.vcschools.org/society for society information.
     
    Parents Association uniform t-shirt and polo sale will be on Thursday, 4/19 from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM in room B21 at the high school.
     
    Join us THIS Friday, 4/20, for the Annual Soup and Pie Dinner and Concert from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM in the High School Gym. There will be delicious soup, pie, and wonderful music presented by the band and orchestra groups.

    The Class of 2018 proudly presents "Cases of Mistaken Identity"  - a comedy. Tickets will go on sale in the high school office 5/1. Tickets are $8 presale; $10 at the door. Performances are 5/11 & 5/12 at 7:30 PM at the Bellflower Civic Auditorium.
     
    The Valley Christian Band and Orchestra Parents' Association invites you to attend the annual Swingin' the Night Away fundraiser. Join us on Friday, 5/4 at the VCHS Chapel beginning at 7:00 PM for Swing Dancing, great music performed by our VCMS & VCHS Jazz Bands, dessert, beverages and door prizes. Tickets for door prizes are available at the event.
     
    Join the VCHS Booster Club for the 32nd Annual Golf Tournament on Friday, 5/11 at the Lakewood Golf Club. You can register and get more information here.
     
    Grad Night Volunteers needed - Please consider helping our 2018 Seniors as they celebrate together at Grad Night. DOUBLE SERVICE HOURS are available! Grad Night is Friday, 5/25.     Preschool    

     
    Teacher/Staff Appreciation week: We are looking for several parents to provide snacks (healthy, salty, and sweet) each morning of the week. We also are looking for 2 parent volunteers to assist with set up and clean up of the luncheon on Thursday, 4/19. Please contact pa@vcschools.org if you are interested in helping serve at the Preschool.
     
    Graduation Pictures will be Tuesday, 4/17: Graduation pictures will take place tomorrow, 4/17 starting at 9:00 AM. This photo opportunity is for all children who are graduating from our preschool campus and moving on. Students will wear a graduation cap and gown, so please make sure girls' hair is down, so that the cap will fit properly. Picture proofs and forms will be given out after the photos have been taken.
     
    Fantastic Friends and Busy Bees: Pre-K and eligible students from Busy Bees will be riding the bus to our Elementary school on Wednesday, 4/18 and Thursday, 4/19. Permission slips were sent home, please return ASAP.
     
    Lunch Bunch for April: Tuesday, 4/24
     
    Kindergarten Testing will be held at VCPS on Wednesday, 4/25. If you plan on your child attending VCES and did not sign up for testing at the Kindergarten Orientation, please contact VCES at 562-920-9902.
     
    God's Great BIG World: Summer program sign ups are going on now. Our 8-week program will run 6/4 - 7/27. Please check your child's file for a sign-up sheet and return it to the preschool office ASAP.
     
     
     
     

     

    Elementary School

    VCS Robotics Info Meeting on Tuesday, 4/17, 6:30 PM in the VCMS Chapel for Parents and Students ages 9-14. This is an important informational meeting for all parents and students interested in the Elementary and Middle School Robotics program.     3rd grade Pioneer Day will be Wednesday, 4/18.
     
    Teacher Appreciation Lunch: Volunteers are needed for the luncheon on Wednesday, 4/18. We are looking for volunteers to assist with set-up and serving. Set-up is from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, and serving is from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Volunteers contact Jennifer at pa-vces@vcschools.org.
     
    2nd grade students will be going to the Columbia Memorial Space Center on Thursday, 4/19.
     
    Parent Service Hours Opportunities for Trot for Technology. We need 8-10 volunteers to count the final proceeds and prepare prizes on Friday, 4/20 from 8:30 AM - 2:30 PM.     Star Gazing Party on Tuesday, 4/24  from 5:00 - 8:30 PM at the elementary campus. Friends and family are invited! Our space loving 2nd grade teacher, Miss Leestma, will be retiring this year after 38 years of teaching at VCES! Come join us as we honor her years of service.
     
    6th grade students will be going to Science Camp 4/25-4/27.
     
    For current 6th and 7th graders: The East Coast/Washington DC Trip meeting is Thursday, 4/26 at 4:30 PM in Room 7 at VCMS. Do you like to travel with your friends to exciting places? The Middle School East Coast/Washington D.C. Trip is scheduled for next summer, 5/30 - 6/5, 2019. If you are interested in this amazing travel opportunity, please attend the meeting.     Kindergarten Nursery Rhyme Day is Thursday, 4/26.
     
    No School for Kindergarten Students 4/27: For both half-day and full-day Kindergarten students, there will be no school on Friday, 4/27 while we test next year’s Kindergarteners.
     
    K - 3rd and 4th - 6th Multiage Class for 2018-19: Current VCS families have priority for enrolling their student in the K-3rd grade and 4th - 6th grade Multiage Classrooms until Monday, 4/30. After this date, it will be opened up to families that are new to VCES. Space is limited. If you are interested in either class or would like more information regarding the Multiage Classrooms, please contact Karen Garcia at 562-920-9902.
     
    Summer Day Camp. Early registration ends on Monday, 4/30. Packets are available at www.vcschools.org/daycare
     
    Box Tops Contest ends on 5/4:  There will be a contest between elementary classes. The top two winning classes will get a popsicle party! Ask relatives, friends, and members of your church to help with collecting. Each Box Top square is worth 10 cents and it adds up fast. 100% of the proceeds go to defray the cost of VCES 6th grade Science Camp. 
     
    The Art Show & Ice Cream Social is on Wednesday, 5/9 from 6:00‐8:00 PM. This is a fun night for friends and family to come and see our children's artwork displayed at the elementary school campus, enjoy ice cream, and meet our great staff. We look forward to seeing you! All donations support our Art program.
     
    VCES Family Night at Angel Stadium: On Saturday, 5/12 take your family out to the ball game! Join VCES families for a fun night watching the Angels play the Minnesota Twins.     The Science Behind Toys: Valley Christian After School Science Club for grades K-6. Two classes are available for Wednesdays, 4/25, 5/2, 5/9, 5/16, and Thursdays, 4/26, 5/3,n5/10, 5/17 from 3:00 PM-4:00 PM. Registration is open with a class size limit of 26.     Spring Enrichment Classes: Will be held for five Tuesdays from 3:00-4:00 PM, beginning 4/17 - 5/15. There are still a few spots remaining. If interested in participating, please return the form and payment to the elementary office as soon as possible.

The class covers the engineering design process, introduces various sketching methods, and develops computer aided modeling skills. Students receive a year of high school credit and three units of CSU transferable college credit. Openings are still available for incoming 9th and 12th graders; incoming 10th and 11th graders will be put on a Wait List. The class runs from 5/29 to 6/28. Students can apply by turning in a completed Cerritos College Bridge Form to the High School office. Bridge Forms can be obtained by emailing pdevries@vcschools.org.

    Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week: Volunteers are needed to donate snacks for 60 each day of the week for the faculty, so we are looking for two families to split bringing snacks each day. In addition, 6 people are needed for campus security 11:15 AM-12:30 PM on Friday, 4/20. If you can help show appreciation for our VCHS staff, please contact pa@vcschools.org.
     
    Junior Senior Banquet will be held on Friday, 4/27. All juniors and seniors attending this event must be at school 1st-4th periods that day and will be dismissed at lunch. Please note that the dress code has been updated. Read the information carefully (forms posted in Canvas) and be aware that all girls must submit pictures of their dresses by 4/26 or they will not be admitted into the event. The location is the Phoenix Club in Anaheim; doors open at 6:30 PM and close at 7:30 PM.
