Why We Love VCES
Welcome to Valley Christian Elementary, a WASC accredited school founded in 1935. We're thrilled you're interested in this foundational campus! We serve students from TK, our youngest Kindergarteners, through 6th grade.Kindergarten YearsKindergarten is big, wonderful year; full of growth and challenges. At Valley Christian, we partner with parents to be certain each individual child is ready for the rigors of this year full of learning foundations. Our experience is, that while a child should certainly be challenged to grow and learn, when learning becomes stressful, it inhibits learning. At Valley Christian Elementary School children must be 5 years old by September 1 of their Kindergarten year. Then, beyond chronological age, we use a well-respected and time-proven predictive test to determine which Kindergarten program is right for each child.Transitional Kindergarten Class.Valley Christian offers a fun, Transitional Kindergarten Class, preparing children for Kindergarten the following year. Transitional Kindergarten allows children to adapt to a daily school routine and incorporates academic and development learning methods and strategies. This class will grow academically, developmentally, spiritually and physically as they take on Math and Phonics, Social Studies and Science. TK offers both a full day and half day option. The TK students enjoy recess, snack time and lunch with the larger Kindergarten group and participate in many of our specialty learning like Art, PE, Chapel and Library Learning. Students in this class must be at least five years old by the end of December. When they graduate, they are quite ready to joyfully take on Kindergarten with great enthusiasm.Kindergarten includes full day and half day options. This more academic program helps children to develop necessary skills for reading and mathematics, the fine arts, physical education and the sciences, enabling them to successfully develop a life-long love of learning. Our Biblical Worldview meets the beginnings of our focus on Academic Excellence, Artistic Accomplishment, and Athletic Distinction. Kindergartners attend weekly specialty training in Art, Music, Physical Education and Library Learning, as well as Chapel.
1st through 6th gradeThe 1st – 6th grades also teach the previously mentioned specialty courses and in 5th and 6th grade, students are taught to play either a band or orchestra instrument. This is accomplished through weekly lessons and bi-weekly band and orchestra practices. At a nominal fee, we provide instruments for this training. Finally, in 6th grade students are encouraged to continue with their instrument or may join the 6th grade choir. All groups offer concerts throughout the school year, where parents, educators, friends and relatives may watch students grow as they honor God with their gifts and talents.Specialty TrainingOur school employs eleven specialty teachers. They instruct students in the fine arts, physical education, and library. Included among the specialty teachers, are two resource teachers, and school psychologist who assist students in making academic gains. Academics and skill development are a daily focus with written standards and objectives in our Curriculum Maps based on the National Standards.Weekly chapel and daily Bible round out a high quality, enriching curriculum. Community outreach, special programs, and presentations throughout the year also make Valley Christian Elementary School a special part of the surrounding community. We invite you to partner with us in providing your children with a love for our Lord and learning!
