    VCS Annual Auction will be held in the high school gym Friday, 2/21. For more information and to buy tickets please go to: vcschools.schoolauction.net/auction2020 We are very excited to focus the 2020 Auction's Fund-a-Need on new VCES classroom doors. Our elementary's classroom doors are in need of replacement and we are going to see how many, if not all, we can pay for during the auction.
     
    Black Angus Fundraiser! Support the High School Epic Robotz team and enjoy some great food at the same time! On Wednesday, 1/29 eat at Black Angus, 5000 E. Candlewood, Lakewood between 11:00 AM-10:00 PM and they will donate 20% of the meal proceeds to the High School Robotics team. This is for dine in or carry out - just present, mention, or show this flyer show this flyer on your phone when ordering!
     
    Parent Service Hour Opportunity-Volunteers are needed to chaperone the High School Winter Formal on the evening of Saturday, 2/1.     BROADWAY SHOWCASE 2020: Rehearsals for this year's show have begun! To view the rehearsal schedule and stay up to date with other important information please visit the Broadway Showcase webpage at vcschools.org/broadway.
     
    Broadway Showcase Sweatshirt/Polo and T- Shirt order forms are available online. This year we will be offering T-shirts as well as Polos for students. Orders are due Thursday, 1/30. NO LATE ORDERS WILL BE ACCEPTED & we DO NOT order any extras! Completed order forms and payment should be turned in to the VC Business Office.
     
    Broadway Showcase Costume Requirement Sheets are now posted on the VC Website under Broadway Showcase. The Costume Requirements are listed by Musical number. Please look carefully for your child’s specific number. Costume Checks:
    • All Elementary Casts: At Rehearsals, Thursdays, 2/13, 2/20, & 2/27
    • Middle School Cast: At Rehearsal, Mondays, 2/17 and 2/24
    • High School Casts: At Rehearsals or in Class starting the week of 2/17-2/27
     
    Mark your calendars - there is no school on Monday, 2/17 in observance of Presidents' Day.
     
    Interested in hosting an International Student? On Tuesday, 2/25 at 7:00 PM the High School Verhoeven College and Career Center there will be an information meeting for families interested in hosting an International Student for VCS 2020-21 school year.     Thank you to all parents who donated and helped out with Pancakes and Pajamas! What a fun time it was celebrating the letter "P".

    Elementary School
     
    Math Olympics make-up tests dates will be during lunch time in Room 10 on Tuesday, 1/28. Email Mrs. Davis for questions edavis@vcschools.org.
     
    Winter Enrichment Classes will be held on Tuesdays from 3:00-4:00 PM, beginning 1/28 - 2/25. We have a few spots still open in, Draw, Draw, Draw!, Board Games, Whiffle Ball and Knitting. If interested in participating, please return the form and payment to the elementary office by Tuesday, 1/28.
     
    Circuits & Robots! Valley Christian After School Science Club for grades 1-6. Class will be on Thursdays, 1/30, 2/6, 2/13 and 2/20 from 3:00-4:00 PM. Information was sent home with students last week, registration can be found here.
     
    Every student at VCES will receive a yearbook. If you are looking for a creative way to tell your student, “I love you and I’m proud of you", a recognition ad can be placed in the yearbook here. Yearbook recognition ads will be accepted through 2/13. If you have any questions, please contact Alba Rodriguez at arodriguez@vcschools.org
     
    Mrs. Davis' class will be going to the Bellflower Farmers Market on Monday, 1/27.
     
    Spirit Day - Pajama Day Friday, 1/31. Spirit Day is optional, if you choose not to participate, please be in uniform.
     
    Save The Date! 6th to 7th Grade Night will be 2/3 at 7:00 PM at the VCMS Chapel. This event is for 6th grade students and their parents only. You'll hear about InterAdvisement Competition, exploratories, schedules, core classes, lockers and life without recess. Parents, if you have available, please bring a copy of your student's proof of Tdap vaccination (pertussis/whooping cough) and Varicella vaccination with you to turn in. You'll have an opportunity to get to know Principal Petteys and our teachers will help you start thinking about the adventures of middle school at VCMS. Please call the Middle School office or email vcmsoffice@vcschools.org with questions.
     
    Preparations for the Fine Arts Festival for students in grades 5-8 are underway. The tryouts will be on Wednesday, 2/12, at our elementary campus after school. For those selected to go on, the Interscholastic Fine Arts Festival is on Thursday, 2/27 at New Life Community Church in Artesia throughout the school day. If you have any questions about the festival, please contact your child's music teacher for more information.
     
    Service Hours Opportunity: Do you enjoy listening to students perform? Parents are needed as door monitors for the Fine Arts Festival tryouts on Wednesday, 2/13, from 2:30-5:30 PM at the elementary campus. Please email Miss Peppel at mpeppel@vcschools.org, if you are available to help.
     
    Volunteers are needed to head up the 2020-2021 Trot for Technology fundraiser. If you are interested, we would love for you to observe this current year's event on 3/13. Please contact the office for more information at 562-920-9902. Service hours do apply.
     
    2nd graders will be going to the Cerritos for the Performing Arts Theatre for the performance of The Marriage of Figueroa on Tuesday, 2/4.
     
    6th grade students will be visiting the middle school campus on Wednesday, 2/5. Lunch for the students will be provided.

    Middle School  
     
    7th Grade Field Trip - Wednesday, 1/29. Students will be going ice skating at Paramount Iceland from 10:00 AM-noon. Lunch at Liberty Park following skating, so students must bring a sack lunch. This field trip is covered by tuition dues and permission slips were handled at the beginning of the year.
     
    8th Grade Parents - VCHS registration forms are due Friday, 1/31. The High School office mailed a letter home last week with a class registration form for your student’s first year of High School! The letter also contains information about 8th grade Graduation and the dance afterward. If you did not receive this mailing or have any questions about the mailing, please contact the High School office at 562-865-0281 ext. 226 or at hsinfo@vcschools.org. The registration forms can be turned in to either the Middle School office or the High School office by Friday, 1/31.
     
    8th Grade Parents - please mark your calendars for the annual 8th to 9th Night coming up on Monday, 4/20, 7:00 PM. Parents and students are both invited to attend. This evening is an important step in learning more about life at VCHS!

    High School
     
    Class Registration Forms due Friday, 1/31: Class registration forms for the 2020-2021 school year were recently mailed home along with your report card. Forms are due to the VCHS office by 1/31. On-time students get priority for classes; late-students have a lower priority and may be assigned to waiting lists. Additional forms can be downloaded at www.vcschools.org/registrationforms. Classes such as TA, Wilderness Challenge, Service-Leadershp, and some AP classes have a separate application that must also be turned in. See Mrs. Pheifer, your counselor or email hsinfo@vcschools.org for more info.
     
    The Winter Dance is Saturday, 2/1, 7:30-11:00 PM at Highway 39 Event Center, 1563 S State College Blvd, Anaheim 92806. Tickets and photo ID’s are required for entrance. Doors close at 8:30 PM. Please note that Classic Image will not be taking pictures at this event, so make sure your phone has plenty of memory space to capture all the memories!
     
     
    VCHS Europe Trip 2020 Enrollment Period Closing Soon: The last day of enrollment for this summer's Europe trip is 2/6; after that you will have to be put on the waiting list. So if you've been thinking about traveling to Europe with your family or sending your child on the trip of a lifetime, now is the time to act. We still have a few spots open! If you would like to learn more about this amazing trip to Germany, Czech Republic, Switzerland and the Netherlands, and how you can afford it, you can email Mr. Rhodes at the high school at mrhodes@vcschools.org or you can simply go to http://www.educationaltravel.com/Rhodes-8203 This link will take you to the VCHS tour page with all the information you need.
     
    Senior Parents - 2nd semester can be an exciting and busy time for seniors and their parents.
