    Valley Christian Middle School would like to thank Christine Aardema for over 7 years of service as one of the administrative assistants. Christine has done a great job and always done it with a smile. She has decided to move on to a full-time position. She will be greatly missed by staff, students and parents.
    There will be no school on Monday, 11/11 for Preschool-12th grade students, staff and teachers for Veterans Day.
    The VCHS Madrigals will be performing at the City of Cerritos Veterans Day Ceremony on Monday, 11/11 at 9:45 AM. The event is being held at the Civic Center located at 18125 Bloomfield Ave., Cerritos 90703 and is open to the public! Click here for a flyer.
    ASB is putting together a yard sale at VCHS on 11/9 from 7:00-10:00AM as a way of fundraising money for our team to use for the community and in planning activities and events! We need your help to make this successful. If you have any lightly used items around your house that you’re considering giving away (i.e. clothes, shoes, books, collectibles, electronics, sports equipment, toys, furniture, etc... but no weapons, please!), consider donating them to this project. All donations can be dropped off with Mrs. Rietveld in the high school office. Anything that doesn’t get sold will be given to Affordable Treasures in Bellflower.     The VC Board of Directors would like to invite all parents/Society members to a Town Hall Meeting on Thursday, 11/14 at 7:00 PM. The meeting will be held in the High School Chapel. This letter has more information. As a reminder all current school parents and guardians who confess faith in Jesus Christ are considered Society members. Society members participate in voting for new members of the Board of Directors, review the school budget at the annual Society Meeting usually held in April, and participate in other meetings when called, such as the Town Hall. At this town hall we will cover the following topics:
    • Pension Plan Update (Provided by Glenn Vos, VC Consultant)
    • Capital Campaign Update and Next Steps
    • Community Input on Valley Christian Schools (Led by Glenn Vos, VC Consultant)
    The VCS Board of Directors is currently seeking nominees for 2020-21. Nominate yourself or another member of the VCS Society/community for election to the Board by emailing Individuals with backgrounds in finance, accounting, budgeting, pension management, human resources, and administration are encouraged to apply.     There will be a VCS T-shirt Uniform sale Thursday, 11/7 from 7:45 - 8:15 AM in Room 23, Bldg B at the high school. Sweatshirt Pre-sale orders are also due on Thursday. Elementary T-shirts, White polos, and Sweatshirts will be available.
    VCS sweatshirts are currently available for pre-order. Download the order form or find it on the Parents Association web page. Orders placed by 11/7 will be available 12/5 from 7:45–8:15 AM or 12/17 from 3:00–5:00 PM in Room 23 of Bldg B on the High School campus.
    Parent service hours opportunity - Saturday, 11/9, 6:30 AM - Service Learning Homeless Breakfasts - On the second Saturday of each month, VCHS teams with our friends at Kingdom Causes and Calvary Baptist Church (14722 Clark Ave, Bellflower) to prepare, serve and eat breakfast with some of our homeless neighbors.     Parent Service Hours Opportunity: SAS sponsors our National Honors activities and luncheon, hosts the annual Scholastic Arts ceremony, and awards scholarships each year to our High School seniors. We are looking for help selling popcorn at the football game on Friday, 11/8 from 7:00 PM -end of game.     At the Biola Art Show Awards reception on Saturday, 10/26, Savannah Clive and Kathryn Tamminga both received Honorable Mention awards (they only give out four awards--one Best in Show, one Emerging Artist for an underclassman, and two Honorable Mentions).We had six art students who had their artwork selected for the Biola Art Show and they are on display in the library at Biola for a few months. Other students who were selected to the show: Mackenzie Puls, Scott Li, Michael Piehl, Abby DeJong.

    Variable Tuition for the 2020-21 School Year - Variable Tuition at Valley Christian is a way to meet tuition needs for families based on individual financial situations. While we may not be able to meet every situation, our team works to assist as we are able. Variable Tuition is available to Full-Day TK through 12th grade. We require everyone to reapply each year.
    The FAST application is now open for VCS families and will require the following copies:
    • 2018 W2
    • 2018 Federal Tax Return
    • 2018 State Tax Return
    If we receive your completed application by 12/20/19, you will have your results by late January 2020 in time for re-enrollment. Applications received after 12/2019 will not be considered until after the re-enrollment period (2/15/20) and will be based on funds available.

    BOPA invites businesses and friends to place a business advertisement or a message to students or staff in our Christmas Concerts program/ad book which will be distributed at all instrumental Christmas concerts grades 5-12.     Children in remote villages of Liberia will be receiving backpacks filled by VCHS students. Containers of Hope is an organization that brings backpacks to poverty-stricken areas in western Africa, and 88 of our high school students filled backpacks with school supplies, toys, and toiletries which will be shipped on a container in a few weeks. During a service chapel, students decorated wooden tops, wrote encouragement cards, and designed beaded keychains which were put in all the backpacks.

    Lunch Bunch days for November: Your child may bring a lunch to enjoy with us from 11:15-11:45 AM. On the day of a scheduled Lunch Bunch, please let your child's teacher know that he/she will be staying until 11:45 AM.

    Third Grade Charlotte's Web Performances on Thursday, 11/7 at 2:00 PM. Mrs. Lennon's class will perform in Room A, Mrs. Shiraki's class will perform in Room 2 and Ms. Den Ouden's class will perform in Room 13.
    Would you like support as you try to get a handle on super charged 6th grade girl emotions? Come to book club on Thursdays, 11/7 and 11/14 from 7:00-8:30 PM in the teachers' lounge at the middle school. We had great dialogue and supportive conversations at our first group meeting and would love for more parents to benefit. Order Untangled by Lisa Damour, Ph.D, and come ready to discuss Chapters 1-4. Seasoned parents will be there to share their experience with daughters. Look for similar opportunities for parents of boys in the spring.     VCES Family Night - On Friday, 11/15, we would love to see you on our campus from 6:00-8:00 PM. Bring the whole family over for a night of games, ice cream, and fun on the elementary campus.     Cookie Dough and Yankee Candle Distribution Day will be Wednesday, 11/13. Items will be available for pick up in the multipurpose room from 2:45-5:45 PM. If you ordered 1 or 2 items, they will be sent home with your child that day. The cookie dough will need to be refrigerated/frozen within 24 hours.
    Volunteers are needed on Wednesday, 11/13 between 9:30 AM-5:45 PM to help sort and set up for the Cookie Dough and Yankee Candle parent pickup. If you can help out, please call the school office. We especially need help between 2:45-5:45 PM. Service hours do apply.

    Broadway Showcase 2020 auditions are coming! Middle School auditions will take place on Thursday, 11/7 from 5:45-7:45 PM in the VCHS Legacy Chapel. Audition forms are available in the office or online at Hope to see you there!
    Long Beach Basket Brigade is a program that creates Thanksgiving day baskets for the less fortunate and we are in need of donations of 2 LB bags/boxes of BROWN SUGAR. All donations are due by Friday, 11/15 to your Advisement class. Our goal is about 500 bags/boxes of Brown Sugar! The first Advisement class who brings the most bags/boxes will receive free dress for a day!

    Chaperones needed for the 8th Grade California Science Center Field Trip on Wednesday, 12/18. The 8th grade team is looking for about 10-15 chaperones to accompany us to the Science Center. We will be leaving the middle school around 8:30 AM and returning close to 2:30 PM. We plan on seeing an IMAX production and then spending time touring the science center until we leave.     VCHS Europe Trip 2020: Early Enrollment Savings will be ending on 11/21/19. If you've been thinking about going to Europe with your family or sending your child on the trip of a lifetime, there's still time to enroll and save! We still have a few spots open!     Still thinking about dropping a class? VCHS has staggered drop dates.
    • If you drop a class by the end of Week 13 (11/8), then there is a W on your permanent transcript, but it doesn't hurt your GPA.
    • If you drop a class after Week 13 (11/8), then you get an automatic F on your permanent transcript, and it will pull your GPA down.

    NHS Seniors are eligible to apply for a National Honor Society Scholarship. Click on this link (NHS student account) and set up an account to get started. The deadline to apply is 12/6.
    Planning ahead? The High School will be having exams on 12/16-12/18. Exams take place in the morning only and High School students are not required to be on campus in the afternoon on exam days. High School students will not be required to attend school on Thursday, 12/19 unless there is an unresolvable exam conflict to make up. Parents can view the initial Exam Schedule at

    UCSB Live Application Help: UCSB will host a UC application help live chat on 11/19 from 8:00-10:00 AM PST and 12:00-2:00 PM PST. Students can register here.
    Practice ACT and SAT - Valley Christian has partnered with Test Prep Gurus and will be offering full length practice tests on campus on Saturday, 11/16/19 (SAT) and Saturday, 1/25/20 (ACT). To sign up please fill out the registration form and return to Mrs. Doornbos in the attendance office by Friday, 11/8/19 for the SAT and Friday, 1/17/20 for the ACT.
