    A huge "thank you" from all our teachers for the outpouring of appreciation that was expressed last week during Teacher Appreciation Week.
     
    A special "thank you" to the Parents' Association and all their volunteers for the wonderful luncheons that were given to the teachers last week.

    Spring Concert Schedules:

    • 5th & 6th Grade will perform on Tuesday, 5/23 at 7:00 pm at Bethany Christian Reformed Church, 17054 Bixby Ave, Bellflower, CA 90706
    • 7th & 8th Grade will perform on Wednesday, 5/24 at 7:00 pm at New Life Community Church, 18800 Norwalk Blvd, Artesia, CA 90701
    • High School Instrumental Concert will perform on Thursday, 5/25 at 7:00 pm. Come enjoy the music of our instrumental students as they present their last concert of the year Bethany Christian Reformed Church, 17054 Bixby Ave, Bellflower.  Orchestra, Crusader Band, Wind Ensemble, and Handbells will be performing!
    Investment Committee Members Needed: VCS is looking for a couple of volunteers to join a newly formed Investment Committee. This committee will meet four times a year and will help with oversight of investment of some of the school's funds.  Interested parties, please contact Business Director, Alice De Bruin (Adebruin@vcschools.org) with your qualifications.
     
    Robotics Summer Camp: Students going into grades 5-8 who would like to learn about building and programming robots are invited to the summer robotics camp. Information and registration is available on the school website under summer opportunities.
     
    Parents’ Association Vacancies: The Parent Association is currently looking to fill the following positions: Vice President, Co-Secretary, Co-Treasurer, Harvest Festival Co-Chairperson, T-Shirt/Polo Sales Chair/Co-Chairperson.     Parent Service Opportunities: 
    • Work at Grad Night on Friday, 6/9: Double credit will be given for service hours for Grad Night. Shifts are 7:00-10:00 pm9:00-10:30 pm10:30 pm-1:00 am or 1:00-4:00 am.     • Work at the Used Uniform Sale 6/8 & 6/10: Set up on Thursday, 6/8 from 7:00-9:00 pm, and for the sale on Saturday, 6/10 from 8:00-1:00 pm. Contact Jennifer at pa-vces@vcschools.org. Hours worked at the June sale can be applied to this year or towards the 2017-18 service hour requirement.
    Used Uniform Sale: Sale dates are Saturday, 6/10Wednesday, 8/2, and Thursday, 8/3. This year, all clothing to be dropped off must be accompanied by an inventory sheet. Please type your information into the PDF Inventory Sheet provided. When you arrive at drop off, you will check in with a Sale Committee Member who will take your inventory list, clothing, and self-addressed stamped envelopes. We will quickly check to make sure your items have not been altered in any way, do not have stains or holes, and have labels securely attached. Please download the sales flier for all the details. The Label Template and Inventory Sheet are also available to download at the Uniforms webpage: www.vcschools.org/uniform.

    Preschool  

    Memorial Day: Infant Care and Preschool will be CLOSED on Monday, 5/29

    "God's Great BIG World" Preschool Summer program sign ups are going on now: A $50.00 registration fee is required. Our summer program begins Monday, 6/19 and runs through Friday, 7/28. See Mrs. Sara for more info. 
     
    Preschool graduation will be held at Encounter Church on the evening of Friday, 6/2 at 6:00 pm. Pre-K and eligible graduates from the Busy Bee's class can be dropped off in their classroom at 5:45 pm.
     
    Looking Ahead: 
    • End of the year celebrations will be on Thursday, 6/8
    • Half day of school on 6/8, 11:30 am pick up. 
    • Infant Care and Preschool will be closed Friday, 6/9
    • Preschool CLOSED 6/9-6/16

    Elementary School
     
    Memorial Day: The Elementary School will be CLOSED on Monday, 5/29
     
    Trot for Technology: Thank you to all of the volunteers, donors, and to Rockview Farms for sponsoring the event. The total amount raised by students was $44,774.29!
      
    Spring Enrichment Classes: The last class will be held tomorrow, 5/23 from 3:00-4:00 pm. 
     
    The 4th Graders will present "Go West" at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, 5/30 at Bethany CRC, 17054 Bixby Ave, Bellflower. All students must wear a plain white t-shirt with jeans and meet in the Friendship Center at 6:40 pm.  Come listen to our chorus of miners, cowpokes, pioneers, and adventurers as they make the journey West!
     
    Fundraiser Coordinator Needed to take over the Cookie Dough/Magazine Sale fundraiser for the 2017-18 school year. Service hours can be earned.  Please call the school office, 562-920-9902, if interested.

    Sports Day Volunteers Needed on Tuesday, 6/6: We need many volunteers to work the events for the kids. Parents, grandparents, family, and friends are all encouraged and welcome to participate in this fun-filled day of activities for our students. Volunteer forms were sent home with students today. Service hours will be given to those who volunteer. If you are interested, please email Jon Slager at jslager@vcschools.org.
     
    Hot Lunch for Sports Day on Tuesday 6/6: Hot lunch will be available for grades TK - 6. Forms were sent home last week. Please note: Choice Lunch will NOT be available on Sports Day!  
     
    Field Trips:
    • 5th grade students will go to California Science Center on Wednesday, 6/7.
    • 6th grade students will go to Knott's Berry Farm on Wednesday, 6/7.
    A Sizzling Summer Day Camp is offered by VCS Extended Day for your K-8th graders! Registration packets are available to download from the Daycare webpage at https://www.vcschools.org/daycare. The registration fee is $65 until 6/1. The camp runs 6/13-8/4, 7:00 am - 6:00 pm. Day camp fills up quickly, reserve your child's spot before it's too late.

    Middle School  
    Memorial Day: The Middle School will be CLOSED on Monday, 5/29
     
    8th Grade Graduation Tickets are being sent home with 8th grade students on Tuesday, 5/23, unless you call the VCMS office at (562) 865-6519 or email at vcmsoffice@vcschools.org to make other arrangements. Graduation ticket requests were due on 5/19. Please, turn your request in to the VCMS office as soon as possible, if you have not already done so. 
     
    Graduation Party Behavior Forms and $25 are due tomorrow, 5/23 to the Middle School Office.
     
    7th Grade Talent Show Friday, 5/26 at 10:15 am: Parents, Grandparents, siblings and friends all welcome to attend.  Location is the VCMS Chapel.  See you on Friday!
     
    Do you still need your parent service hours? We are looking for three parents to direct traffic at the Middle School Graduation. We will need you at Calvary Church in Bellflower at 5:45 pm on Wednesday, 6/7 until 7:00 pm. Call 562-865-6519 or email the Middle School Office, vcmsoffice@vcschools.org.  
     
    Introduction to Spanish Teacher Needed: VCMS is looking for someone to teach an Introduction to Spanish class for the 2017-18 school year. The class meets four afternoons a week for nine weeks and the schedule is flexible. Contact Mr. Tiersma at jtiersma@vcschools.org if you would like more information.
     
    Homework Club Snacks Needed: Homework club goes through the end of May and is still in need of snacks. 
     
    Parent Chaperones Needed 5/26: We are still looking for parent chaperones for our 8th Grade Crystal Cove trip on Friday, 5/26. If you are able to attend, email Mrs. Branderhorst at Tbranderhorst@vcschools.org.

    Senior Parents:  A letter was sent home with information about your student’s last days.  Information is included about Sr. Trip, Sr. Blessing, Graduation, and Grad Night. If you did not receive the letter or you have any questions, please contact us at hsinfo@vcschools.org.
       
    Graduation Tickets will be available for pick up from the High School office beginning on Tuesday, 5/23. Please note that all outstanding payments, fees, and service hours must be made prior to pick up.
     
    NHS/Student Council Members: Chat live with admissions counselors from college and universities across the country at the NASSP Virtual College Fair.     The Evening with the Madrigals will be held on 6/1 at 6:30 pm in the Legacy Chapel. Student tickets are $10 and all other tickets are $15. Come and experience a delicious dinner catered by Kabob Crush, fabulous desserts, and amazing musical entertainment! Space is limited - see a current Madrigal for tickets starting this Wednesday, 5/24.
     
    Senior Blessing on Tuesday, 6/6: Seniors and senior parents, mark your calendars for a special night of praise and prayer at the "Senior Blessing" on Tuesday, 6/6 at Bethany CRC, Bellflower. We will be displaying a photo collage for each senior. If you wish to begin working on your Senior Photo Collage, please remember to use a 11 x 17 inch paper or poster board created by you and/or your senior, or if you prefer, you can purchase a 12 x 18 inch photo collage on Costco.com.     Grad Night Information: 
    • Grad Night Parent Committee will be on campus at lunch on Wednesday and Thursday, 5/24-5/25. If seniors have not already done so, they need to turn in their Code of Conduct and Field Trip forms in order to register for Grad Night and reserve their bus seating. 
    • Donations Needed: Senior parents, we are in need of donations for Grad Night. If you are willing to donate a food item we would appreciate it. Please click on the link to sign up for an item.     Europe Trip 2018: It's not too late to sign up for the trip of a lifetime, touring Britain, France, and Spain! If you and/or your children want to visit Europe in the summer of 2018, contact Mr. Rhodes at mrhodes@vcschools.org or students can stop by Mr. Rhodes' room, Mrs. Cortes' room or Mrs. Zoetewey's room to pick up a student invitation envelope with more information. We hope you can join us 5/29-6/11/18 on what promises to be an educational, fun, and life-changing adventure.

    VCHS Bookstore Volunteers Needed: Did you know the VCHS bookstore saves high school families hundreds of dollars each year over list price for digital and print books? Please help and earn service hours by:

    • Working the August Sale (Wednesday, 8/2, from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm and Thursday, 8/3 from 4:00 pm to 8:30 pm)

    Valley Christian High School and Kaplan Test Prep have partnered to bring award winning SAT test prep to the VCHS campus this summer! This class will meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm from 7/18 to 8/10 at the discounted rate of $375!

    K-6 Summer Camp: Los Altos Grace Brethren Church is offering a K-6 summer camp, No Compromise, which is based on 1 Corinthians 15:58.
