    Congratulations to Team 1711, the Vincent Van Gogh Bots, who represented VCS and the USA, and finished 22nd among the 50 teams that competed. Forty countries from around the globe sent their best and brightest to the tournament, and 1711 did not disappoint --- they scored 455 out of a possible 550, their highest score in the competition! They set the bar high as the first team representing the USA at the Championship in Europe. Please join us in congratulating team members Grace Byma, Jason Perona, Joseph Nour, Lily Kang, Seth Carranza, and Sonia Jasper.
     
    Friends of the Dumont Slope: Thank you for another year of making this CA Native Garden such a success! We will have the last tending time of the school year, this Saturday, May 25, from 12:00-2:00 PM.  Please join us!     Sports Day for Grades TK-K: Volunteers are needed for Sports day on Tuesday, 5/21 at the elementary campus. Students will be competing in various activities, and we could use your help running the events. Service hours will be given to all volunteers. The day runs from 9:45 AM to 11:30 AM.     6th-Grade Promotion on Wednesday, 5/22 1:00 - 1:40 PM: The Sixth-Grade Blessing ceremony to celebrate the students that will be moving on to middle school will take place in the high school gym located at 10818 Artesia Blvd., Cerritos, CA 90703. 6th-grade students will not have school on 5/23.

    • August 7: iPad distribution and Parent Orientation Night at 6:30 PM. This meeting is mandatory and for adults only.
    • August 11: Updated immunization records are due to the middle school office. This must be turned in before the first day of school.
    • August 12: First day of school. Students are dismissed at 11:30 AM.
    • August 20: VCMS Back-To-School Night
    • August 27: VCMS School Picture Day

    Middle School

    8th-Grade Families: Please note the following graduation day (5/22) reminders for

    • Students arrive to school at 8:15 AM and go to his/her advisement class.
    • Rehearsal will be from 8:30 - 10:25 AM at the VCHS gymnasium.
    • Students will be dismissed from the middle school at 10:30 AM. Parents must pick students up or arrange for his/her transportation.
    • Students must check in with his/her advisement teacher at the VCHS gymnasium at 6:30 PM.
    • Only ticket holders will be admitted to the graduation ceremony. Please give your family/friends their tickets ahead of time. We will not have a will call.
    • Balloons and noise makers will not be allowed in the gymnasium.
    • We look forward to celebrating your graduate with you!
     
    All campus fines must be paid before students may receive a yearbook. There is no additional cost for a yearbook. It was included in your student's tuition.
     
    Thank you to our parents that helped with traffic duty. Thanks to Kim Kirk, Linda Kawaguchi, and Shavon Walker for keeping the cars and buses safe!
     
    Is your student missing some of his/her belongings? Please come in and check our Lost and Found. All unclaimed items will be donated to Affordable Treasures on Wednesday, 5/29.

    Summer Classes Brought to you by Epic Robotz: EPIC Robotz will be hosting classes this summer in Computer Aided Design (CAD), Programming and CNC manufacturing!     LOST AND FOUND - Check out the lost and found in the high school office! Your missing items are waiting to be reunited with you! Anything left during exam week will be packed up and brought to Affordable Treasures.
     
    VCHS Exams are May 20-22. Some reminders about Exam Week:
    • The exam schedule is posted on the High School Student page in Canvas and at www.vcschools.org/hsresources
    • Attendance during Exam Week: Please DO NOT schedule appointments between 8:00 AM-Noon during exam week. If your child is too sick to take exams, contact the Attendance Desk at 562-865-0281, ext. 227 or by emailing sdoornbos@vcschools.org.
    • While exams are in progress (8:30-10:00 AM and 10:30 AM-12:00 PM) students may not enter or leave campus.
    • Students should arrive on campus before 8:30 AM, or between 10:00-10:30 AM (depending on their exam schedule). While on campus, students who are not taking exams will be required to be in a testing room or remain in the library for the duration of the testing period. If a student does not have an exam, he or she is not required to be on campus.
    • There is no school for high school students in the afternoon on exam days.
    • VCHS students are not allowed to visit other campuses until 2:45 PM.
    • The canteen and coffee shop will be open from 8:00-8:30 AM and 10:00-10:30 AM - Monday-Wednesday.
    • Buses will run at regular times (8:00 AM drop off, 2:45 PM departure) on Monday-Wednesday.
    • The library will be open until 2:30 PM, Monday-Wednesday.
    • Uniforms must be worn during finals or students will not be allowed to take final exams.
    • There is no school for high school students on Thursday, 5/23 (even though the other campuses have a half day that day).
    • Students won't be cleared to take exams until their financial obligations to the Library are cleared.

    VC FIELD FAREWELL - Join us tonight, May 13, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM for a farewell to our current athletic stadium field before we break ground on the new Stadium Project. Burgers and hot dogs will be provided. Wear your maroon and gold for photos in front of the scoreboard and come enjoy fellowship and one last time on the old field! Please RSVP here!
     
    Join us for the final concert of the year - Tuesday, 5/14, 7:00 PM - You're invited to join us at Bell One CRC for our annual VC Orchestra Night Concert.     Interested in swimming for VCHS: Lakewood Aquatics is scheduling swim lessons now for all ages with training locations at Cerritos College and Lakewood High School. This is a great way to prepare for competitive swim teams and learn from seasoned coaches. There is a 1:4 student to instructor ratio and sessions are 30-40 minutes.     VCHS Exams are May 20-22. Some reminders about Exam Week:
    • The exam schedule is posted on the High School Student page in Canvas and at www.vcschools.org/hsresources
    • Attendance during Exam Week: Please DO NOT schedule appointments between 8:00 AM-Noon during exam week. If your child is too sick to take exams, contact the Attendance Desk at 562-865-0281, ext. 227 or by emailing sdoornbos@vcschools.org.
    • While exams are in progress (8:30-10:00 AM and 10:30 AM-12:00 PM) students may not enter or leave campus.
    • Students should arrive on campus before 8:30 AM, or between 10:00-10:30 AM (depending on their exam schedule). While on campus, students who are not taking exams will be required to be in a testing room or remain in the library for the duration of the testing period. If a student does not have an exam, he or she is not required to be on campus.
    • There is no school for high school students in the afternoon on exam days.
    • VCHS students are not allowed to visit other campuses until 2:45 PM.
    • The canteen and coffee shop will be open from 8:00-8:30 AM and 10:00-10:30 AM - Monday-Wednesday.
    • Buses will run at regular times (8:00 AM drop off, 2:45 PM departure) on Monday-Wednesday.
    • The library will be open until 2:30 PM, Monday-Wednesday.
    • Uniforms must be worn during finals or students will not be allowed to take final exams.
    • There is no school for high school students on Thursday, 5/23 (even though the other campuses have a half day that day).
    • Students won't be cleared to take exams until their financial obligations to the Library are cleared.

    Sports Day - Hot Dog Lunch - A hot dog lunch will be available for grades TK – 6 on Sports Day, Tuesday, May 21. The cost is $5.00 per lunch. Lunch includes one hot dog, chips, juice, and fruit. If you would like to order any extra hot dogs, please include an additional $2.00 per hot dog. Payment can be made either by cash or a check made payable to VCES.     • Friday, 5/10, 7:00 PM - Swingin' The Night Way - Come hear the VC Jazz Bands in the VCHS Legacy Chapel. The baseball-themed event includes music, games, trivia, refreshments, and prizes! Bring cash to participate in baseball ticket give-a-ways. Both the middle school and high school jazz bands will be performing. Bring your family and friends to enjoy a great night!
    • Tuesday, 5/14, 7:00 PM - You're invited to join us at Bell One CRC for our annual VC Orchestra Night Concert. All Valley Christian Orchestras will be performing: 5th grade, 6th grade, Middle School and High School, with a special combined piece with all students at the end. We hope to see you there!
     
    VCHS Handbell Auditions for the 2024-25 school year are now open! Students currently in grades 8-11 are welcome to audition. Auditions require a video submission along with completion of an audition form. The last day to submit your audition form is Monday, 5/6. Please email Mrs. Struiksma if you have any questions.     The VCHS Defenders Song Team has an exciting event coming up! This Saturday, 5/11, 11:00 AM-1:30 PM in the VCHS dance room, we will be holding tryouts for our upcoming 2024-25 season. If you're interested in trying out, please fill out an application via the link on our team's Instagram page.
     
     
    Private Voice Lessons: Mr. Goedhart is again offering voice lessons on the VCHS campus during the summer months to any student wanting to prepare for college music scholarships, learn how to develop their musical skills, and improve their confidence in singing.     Lost and Found - If your student lost it, remind them to try to find it in the high school Lost and Found! The Lost and Found is overflowing! Items will be packed up and brought to Affordable Treasures during exam week.
     
    Senior Parents - Mark your calendars for the Senior Blessing on Sunday, 5/19, 7:00 PM at Bell One Christian Reformed Church in Bellflower. Invitations and more information were sent out last week via US Mail. Information about the picture collage is on the invitation. A copy of the invitation and the additional information is posted at www.vcschools.org/hsresources if your invitation did not arrive in the mail.     Interested in swimming for VCHS: Lakewood Aquatics is scheduling swim lessons now for all ages with training locations at Cerritos College and Lakewood High School. This is a great way to prepare for competitive swim teams and learn from seasoned coaches. There is a 1:4 student to instructor ratio and sessions are 30-40 minutes.     VCHS Exams are May 20-22. Some reminders about Exam Week:
    • The exam schedule is posted on the High School Student page in Canvas and at www.vcschools.org/hsresources
    • Attendance during Exam Week: Please DO NOT schedule appointments between 8:00 AM-Noon during exam week. If your child is too sick to take exams, contact the Attendance Desk at 562-865-0281, ext. 227 or by emailing sdoornbos@vcschools.org.
    • While exams are in progress (8:30-10:00 AM and 10:30 AM-12:00 PM) students may not enter or leave campus.
    • Students should arrive on campus before 8:30 AM, or between 10:00-10:30 AM (depending on their exam schedule). While on campus, students who are not taking exams will be required to be in a testing room or remain in the library for the duration of the testing period. If a student does not have an exam, he or she is not required to be on campus.
    • There is no school for high school students in the afternoon on exam days.
    • VCHS students are not allowed to visit other campuses until 2:45 PM.
    • The canteen and coffee shop will be open from 8:00-8:30 AM and 10:00-10:30 AM - Monday-Wednesday.
    • Buses will run at regular times (8:00 AM drop off, 2:45 PM departure) on Monday-Wednesday.
    • The library will be open until 2:30 PM, Monday-Wednesday.
    • Uniforms must be worn during finals or students will not be allowed to take final exams.
    • There is no school for high school students on Thursday, 5/23 (even though the other campuses have a half day that day).
    • Students won't be cleared to take exams until their financial obligations to the Library are cleared.
