    Monday 9/27 - We will be celebrating Johnny Appleseed Day.Please dress your child in something RED, GREEN, or YELLOW as we talk about apples, and sample apples in different forms.

    Fall Fundraiser: The Cookie Dough and Magazine Sale fundraiser began on 9/15 and will run through 9/29. Information was sent home with your child last week. More information can be found here.

    5th & 6th Grade Athletics: Boys Flag Football and Girls Basketball Tryouts will be held from 3:00-4:30 PM on Tuesday, 9/21 and Wednesday, 9/22 at the VCES campus. Here is the link with more information. Additional information was distributed last week in school. We are in need of Boys Flag Football and Girls Basketball coaches. These are paid positions!     Career Day Spirit Day!  On Thursday, September 30, students can show their school spirit by dressing up in their future career attire.  Spirit Day is optional, if you choose not to participate, please be in uniform.
     
    Book Talk! for 5th and 6th grade parents: Want an inside look to the super-charged emotions that your tweens are experiencing? Dive into Starfish by Lisa Flipps and then join our school counselor, Mrs. Stahl, and couple teachers on Monday, 10/11, 7:00- 8:00 PM to have a book discussion followed by some thoughts from the counselor on the impact of our words, shaming and parent/tween relationship tips for these middle years. You're not alone. Let's do this together! Please email Mrs. Stahl with questions or to sign up - sstahl@vcschools.org.
       
    Fall Enrichment Classes: Classes will be held for five Thursday from 3:00-4:00 PM, 9/23 - 10/21. There are a few spots still open in Fun with Fitness, Bible Stories Come Alive, Soccer, Star Wars X-Wing and Handbells. Classes fill up quickly and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration forms can be found here. Confirmation forms were sent home with your child last Friday, for those who have already registered.
     
    Rocketry - Valley Christian After School Science Club for grades 3-6. Class is available on Tuesdays, 9/21, 9/28, 10/5 and 10/12 from 3:00-4:00 PM. Registration and information can be found here
     
    Spanish Class for Grades 4-6: We are excited to offer a Spanish class taught by Ms. Esther Sanchez, who teaches Spanish at our high school. Spanish Enrichment introduces you to Spanish language and culture. Classes will be held on the elementary campus on Tuesdays, 9/21 - 10/19, 3:00-4:00 PM.     Staff/Bus Parking Lot: Parking is very limited in the staff/bus parking lot. Please park on the street if possible, except on Tuesdays, which are street sweeping days.

    Middle School East Coast Trip: Parents, come and hear about an optional, but wonderful, travel experience for your middle school student! Early next summer (May 26 - June 1) Mr. Huisman and Mrs. Vande Vegte will be leading a trip to the East Coast that includes stops in Williamsburg, Washington D.C., Gettysburg, and New York City. Join us for a meeting this Wednesday, 9/22 at 4:45 PM in the middle school chapel to receive more details.     Parents, please make sure your children are picked up by 3:15 PM. If you are unable to pick your student up by 3:15 PM you can enroll them in the Extended Day Program VCS offers to our families.
     
    Masks are required for students while indoors on campus unless you have filed a waiver in the front office. Disciplinary action will be taken for students without mask waivers who do not wear their masks indoors. Please be sure to send your child to school with masks from home as our campus supply is limited.

    VCHS Men's Breakfast: Parents we are looking for breakfast donations for our Men's Breakfast on two Thursday's of each month. If you are willing to donate, deliver, or cook breakfast for our young men you can get service hours. At our kickoff last Thursday 9/16 we had over 55+ young men attend.     Europe Trip Deadline Reminder: For those of you who want to secure a spot for your child on the Europe trip this summer, please remember that the deadline to enroll and take advantage of the $200 discount is 9/29.
     
    Still thinking about dropping a class? VCHS has staggered drop dates.
    • If you drop a class by the end of Week 7 - 9/20, then there is no permanent record anywhere.
    • If you drop a class by the end of Week 13, then there is a W on your permanent transcript, but it doesn't hurt your GPA.
    • If you drop a class after Week 13, then you get an automatic F on your permanent transcript, and it will pull your GPA down.
    • Download a drop form at www.vcschools.org/registrationforms.
     
    Worship Nights: Students are invited to gather together as a student body for worship, an encouraging word, and fellowship. Everyone is welcome, if you don’t have a youth group, need a space to pray and worship, share your testimony, and/or want to get plugged into a community this is the place for you! The first Worship Night will be Monday, 9/20, 6:30 PM in the High School Legacy Chapel.     ATTENTION SENIORS! Deadline to sign up is Friday, 9/24. Ever wonder about the Midwest or what it would be like to go to college there? RaNelle Ver Velde is planning a trip to visit Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa AND Dordt University in Sioux Center. We will be leaving on Wednesday, October 27. We will visit Northwestern on the 28th and Dordt on the 29th. You will be staying in dorms on BOTH campuses. We will then fly home on the 30th. If this is something you are interested in, please email RaNelle at rvervelde@vcschools.org soon to get signed up!

    Did you know? Parents can set preferences in PowerSchool so things like daily announcements, grades, and attendance can be emailed to you. When using the web version of PowerSchool, log in as a parent, select “Email Notifications” from the left-hand navigation menu, and you’ll be able to set your preferences. When using the mobile app, tap on "Account" then "Notifications". Please note that "Email Notification" settings can be different for each child, and there is a box that says "Apply These Setting to All Students" or parents can go to each student and update the settings.     Planning ahead? High School Exam Week will be 12/13-12/15. High School students will not be required to attend school on Thursday, 12/16 unless there is an unresolvable exam conflict to make up.

    VCPS will host a chapel service each week on Wednesday morning from 9:00 - 9:30 AM. We are excited to have started our new GO! curriculum featuring Bible stories, classroom connection, and home activities. During chapel time we will also teach the children about giving and take a special collection that will be used at Christmas time to purchase items for Eucalyptus Christmas through the Encounter Church.
     
    Picture Day: will be on this Tuesday, 9/14 and Wednesday, 9/15. Each child received a notice in their file indicating which day they will take pictures. If you are unsure of the date your child will take a picture, please see their teacher.

    Elementary School

    5th/6th Grade Coaches Needed! - We are looking for a few girls’ basketball and boys’ flag football coaches for the upcoming season. This is a paid position and requires a commitment of up to three (3) days a week, Monday-Thursday, from 3:00-4:30 PM from mid-September through mid-November.     Fundraiser Chair - We are in need of a volunteer to head up our fall fundraiser for magazine and cookie dough sales. If you are interested or need more information, please call the school office at 562-920-9902.
     
    MAPS Testing for students in grades K-6th will continue until 9/17. Testing will be at various times throughout the day depending on the classroom schedule. Please make sure your student gets a good night's rest, eats breakfast, and arrives at school on time.

    Harvest Festival Candy Donations - Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Senior Classes all are in need of candy donations to run their booths at Harvest Festival.     We need your help! Valley Christian Schools has been blessed by an increase in enrollment for the 2021-2022 school year. This increase means we need more picnic tables for lunch at the Elementary and High School campuses.     • SAS Popcorn Cart: We are looking for parent volunteers to run the SAS popcorn cart on Friday nights during our home football games. It’s a great way to have fun and meet people while enjoying Friday Night Lights at Valley. The proceeds fund our Scholastic Arts Scholarships for our senior students.     • HS Football Games Canteen: A fun way to get those service hours is to help out in the canteen during football season.     New Parent Welcome Dinner: RSVP Deadline is today 9/7. Please check your email and RSVP for the New Parent Welcome Dinner. This event is scheduled for Tuesday, 9/14 at 6:00 PM at our high school campus. Get to know a little bit more about Valley Christian School community.
     
    Celebrating Grandparents: Grandparents are welcome to drop off or pick up their grandchild from preschool on Thursday, 9/9 or Friday, 9/10 (We will have a special treat for them). We will also be mailing out a special card for them this week. If you have not submitted their address, please do so asap!
     
    Child's File: Please remember to check your child's file daily for important papers, daily work, and art projects.
     
    VCPS will host a chapel service each week on Wednesday morning from 9:00 - 9:30 AM. We are excited to have started our new GO! curriculum featuring Bible stories, classroom connection, and home activities. During chapel time we will also teach the children about giving and take a special collection that will be used at Christmas time to purchase items for Eucalyptus Christmas through the Encounter Church.
     
    Picture Day: will be on Tuesday, 9/14 and Wednesday, 9/15. Each child received a paper in their file indicating which day they will take pictures. If you are unsure of the date your child will take a picture, please see their teacher.
     
    Signing In/Out: Please remember to sign your child in each morning at drop off and out again each afternoon at pick-up!

    5th/6th Grade Coaches Needed! - We are looking for a few girls’ basketball and boys’ flag football coaches for the upcoming season. This is a paid position and requires a commitment of up to three (3) days a week, Monday-Thursday, from 3:00-4:30 PM from mid-September through mid-November.     Fundraiser Chair - We are in need of a volunteer to head up our fall fundraiser for magazine and cookie dough sales. If you are interested or need more information, please call the school office at 562-920-9902.
     
    VCES Grandparents Day - Friday, 9/10, 1:30-2:30 PM. Join us for a fun afternoon outdoors with your grandkid(s). Play games, do crafts, take photos together and top it off with ice cream! A family friend or relative can also join us!
     
    MAPS Testing for students in grades K-6th will continue until 9/17. Testing will be at various times throughout the day depending on the classroom schedule. Please make sure your student gets a good night's rest, eats breakfast, and arrives at school on time.
     
    Staff/Bus Parking Lot: Parking is very limited in the staff/bus parking lot. Please park on the street if possible, except on Tuesdays, which are street sweeping days.
     

     

    Middle School  
     
    Parents, please remember that masks are required for students while indoors on campus unless you have filed a waiver in the front office. Disciplinary action will be taken for students without mask waivers who do not wear their masks indoors. Please be sure to send your child to school with masks from home as our campus supply is limited.
     
    VC Schools Harvest Festival is this Friday, 9/10 on the VCHS Campus 3:00 - 7:00 PM.
     
    The Middle School Parent Association representatives will be hosting a BBQ Pulled Pork Dinner at the Harvest Festival. Donations and volunteers are needed in order to make this event a success! If you are interested in serving or donating to this event click here.

Hear how you can support your senior student through the college application process. The presentation will also be recorded and emailed to all parents.
     
    It's time to start thinking about traveling abroad again! The VCHS Europe trip that was postponed in 2020 because of the pandemic has been rescheduled for the summer of 2022. We’ll be touring Germany, Switzerland, Czech Republic and the Netherlands. Come to a parent meeting on Tuesday, 9/7 at 6:30 PM in Room C31 to hear more about this amazing educational opportunity. There are scholarships and payment plans that could work for you.     Intro Meeting for Students and Parents New to High School Robotics will be tonight, Tuesday 9/7 at 7:00 PM. All students and parents who are interested in learning about the high school robotics program are invited to attend an introductory meeting on Tuesday Sept 7th at 7:00 PM. This meeting is designed for parents and students that are new to the program and is not required for veteran parents, but anyone who has questions is welcome to attend.     ATTENTION SENIORS! Ever wonder about the midwest or what it would be like to go to college there? RaNelle Ver Velde is planning a trip to visit Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa AND Dordt University in Sioux Center. We will be leaving on Wednesday, October 27. We will visit Northwestern on the 28th and Dordt on the 29th. You will be staying in dorms on BOTH campuses. We will then fly home on the 30th. If this is something you are interested in, please email RaNelle at rvervelde@vcschools.org soon to get signed up!
     
    Senior parents - All seniors are asked to have a Senior Portrait taken at Classic Image, our school photographer, to be put in the yearbook. If you were not able to schedule your Senior Portrait appointment during the summer, please do so as soon as possible by calling 562-865-3636. There will be a $40 sitting fee and an option to buy more prints. Senior portraits will need to be taken by the end of September or the ID card photo will be used in the yearbook instead.
