Broadway Showcase 2017:
  • Broadway Showcase DVD order forms are available here and on the website, and all orders must be turned in to the VC Business Office no later than 3:00 pm on Wednesday, 3/22.
  • Costumes Collection: Return all Valley Christian owned or borrowed costumes & accessories to any Valley Christian school office. Please have the costumes clean and in a bag labeled with your name.
    • 4-6 Jailhouse Rock: Black and white shirts, ribbons, & black skirts
    • Middle School: Any borrowed knickers, vests, shirts, dresses, aprons & accessories
    • High School: All borrowed items
  • Costume Donation: Please don't throw out your costumes!  If you don't want them anymore, please consider donating them to the Broadway Costume Closet. Drop any costumes off at any school office and label it costume donation. Thank you!
2017-18 Robotics Information Meeting Tuesday, 3/21: at 6:30 pm at VCMS Chapel for Students and Parents interested in joining our VCS Robotics First Lego League (FLL) Teams for the next school year. FLL Teams are for ages 9-14. Students interested in designing, programming, and competing in robotics should attend. If you have any questions, please contact Sharon Lee or Hannah Eichel.
VCHS Robotics Competition This Weekend: You are invited to cheer on the VCHS Robotics team as they compete at the Long Beach Pyramid at Cal State Long Beach on Saturday 3/25 and Sunday, 3/26 in the Los Angeles Regional. Qualification matches will occur all day Saturday and Sunday morning, with all final rounds occurring on Sunday between 1:30-4:30 pm. Please come and support the EPIC Robotz-Team 4415 competitive robot. You must wear closed toed shoes to visit the team's pit area. The event is free to everyone.
Grad Night Fundraiser: A Chick-Fil-A fundraiser will be held on Wednesday, 3/22, from 6:30 am to 9:00 pm to support our senior Grad Night.  The location is 18605 Gridley Road in Cerritos. Present the flyer when you place your order so that Grad Night will receive a donation from your order.  Flyers are available in each campus office or can be downloaded here.
Athletic Sweatshirt Orders Due Friday, 3/24: The last athletics sweatshirt order of the year is this week. Download the form and turn it into the Middle School Office. 
A Night of Worship & Comedy on Friday, 3/24: The VCMS Praise Team would like to invite VCS families (especially 6th, 7th, and 8th grade!) to a special evening of inspiring worship music, followed by the hilarious, award-winning, clean comedy of Ron McGehee. Join us for this FREE event in the Middle School chapel at 7:00 pm on Friday, 3/24. Email Mr. Noteboom for more information. 
Service Day Car Wash: Help support our school wide Service Day with a car wash this Saturday, 3/25 from 8:00-10:30 am here at school. Students are $5.00 and everyone else is $10.00. Donations are appreciated. Tickets are being sold all week and we will take money on the day as well. All proceeds go toward support for the homeless and underprivileged organization that we work with.
The Annual Soup and Pie Dinner and Concert: will be on Friday, 4/21 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the High School Gym. Join us for delicious soup, pie, and wonderful music presented by the band and orchestra groups grades 5-12.

VCHS All Campus Day of Service on 5/5. We are looking for new places to serve on our half-day of community service in May. Email Jeff Westrup If you know of a location where a group of students could serve from 8:30-11:30 am.

2017-2018 VCMS Job Opening: Valley Christian Middle School is seeking a 7th Grade History or Science Teacher. The candidate must be deeply committed to their faith and have a passion for middle school students. The ability to coach sports or teach Bible would be helpful. Community Helpers Week, Monday, 3/20 through Friday, 3/24: We would like volunteers to share about their professions for 15 minutes. If you are a police officer or fireman that is able to bring your squad car or fire engine, please inform Ms. Sara or Miss Marlaina. All professions are welcome such as bakers, fashion designers, medical professionals, and bankers. Sign-up sheets will be on a table on the playground.

Walking Field Trip to Burger King: Information about our Walking trip and Tour of Burger King on Friday, 3/24 will be in your child's file today! Many volunteers are needed to make this a fun and safe field trip. Please see the Playground table for parent sign ups. Permission slips and $4.00 may be turned into Mrs. Sara by Wednesday, 3/23.

Busy Bee's Permission Slip:
Pre-K and Eligible students from Busy Bee's will be riding the bus to our Elementary school on Wednesday, 3/29 and Thursday, 3/30. Please check your child's file as permission slips are going home today, Monday, 3/20. 
See's Candies: The preschool is selling See's Candies. Orders can be made through the Preschool Office through Friday, 3/31. Orders will be available for pick up before Easter Break. 
Our Easter Celebration and Egg Hunt will be held on Wednesday, 4/5. Please remember to bring 12 filled eggs by Tuesday, 4/4. Children will also be decorating Easter cookies. All students may join the fun!

Elementary School
A Huge Thank You: to the Columbia Astronomers from the Columbia Memorial Space Center for donating a fantastic, table top telescope that we gave away in a raffle. Congrats to our winner, Kindergartener, King James Cooper. 
Congratulations to the students recognized in chapel today:  Logan Carr, Kyrie DeBie, Luke Gisler, Riley Struiksma, and Lily Torres.
Bellflower Farmer's Market: Mrs. Davis' class will be visiting the Farmer's Market in Bellflower today, Monday, 3/20.
Rockets and Space! Valley Christian After School Science Club for grades K-6. Two classes are available for Wednesdays, 3/22, 3/29, 4/5, 4/19 and Thursdays, 3/23, 3/30, 4/6, 4/20 from 3:00-4:00 pm. Please note, 6th graders will be at Science Camp 3/29-3/31. Registration is open with a class size limit of 26. A digital copy of the registration form and information is available here. We hope this science program will inspire students to learn and marvel at God's handiwork in His creation.

Coffee and Carbs:  This event is for parents/guardians of TK & Kindergarten on Friday, 3/24, from 8:00-9:00 amin the VCES multipurpose room.  You're welcome to bring your non-school age children during this time.  Come get to know other parents in a casual setting.

Kindergarten Observation Tours: We will host Kindergarten Observation Tours at 8:30 am, on Friday, 3/24 and Thursday, 4/6. These tours are a wonderful way for prospective parents to visit our campus and focus on our Kindergarten program. They'll see teachers and students in action and explore specialty classes. Tours are available by reservation. Call Dianne, 562-860-0556, in the Business Office to join in. 
Aquarium of the Pacific: Kindergarten students will be going to the Aquarium of the Pacific on Friday, 3/31.
Got Paper Towels? Mrs. Koolmees' class is in need of empty paper towel, wrapping paper and/or toilet paper rolls for a class project.  Empty rolls can be brought to the elementary office.

Math Circle 2017: Math Circle has meetings every Tuesday. Please fill out the form and turn into the elementary office. 
Talent Show (Grades 1-6) Friday, 4/28: If your child is interested in participating, applications are available for download and are in the VCES office. Interested students must be ready to participate in the screening dates of either 4/4 or 4/5 during lunch recess. The talent show will be held on Friday, 4/28 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm in the High School chapel. If you have any questions, please contact Taelin at with the subject line VCES Talent Show.

Box Tops Contest: From Monday, 4/3 through Friday, 4/28, there will be a contest between the elementary classes to find out who can collect the most box tops. Start asking relatives, friends, and members of church to help with collecting because the winning class will get a Pizza party! Each Box Top square is worth 10 cents. 100% of the proceeds go to defray the cost of VCES 6th grade Christian Science Camp.

Kindergarten Orientation, Monday, 4/3 at 7:00 pm: This meeting is for parents of kindergarten students who will start August 2017. You'll meet the Kindergarten teaching team as well as learn about important details, including A Day in The Life of a Kindergartener and Kindergarten testing days.
Fishing Trip Raffle, Monday, 4/24: To raise money for the auction, sixth grade teacher, Mr. Vander Dussen, is offering a day of fishing this summer on his 19 1/2 foot boat, Striker. We will fish local ocean waters. This trip will be for one adult and two children. If you win, you may take your brother or sister or a friend! It includes all equipment, live bait and fish cleaning. Catching fish is guaranteed or he will take you out again! Tickets are $5 each or increase your chances and buy five tickets for $20! Extra tickets may be purchased at the Elementary School office. The drawing will be held at the Elementary School during chapel on Monday, 4/24. Make checks payable to Valley Christian Auction.

Middle School

8th Grade Graduation Party Meeting: Monday, 3/20 in the VCMS Chapel at 7:00 pm. Our goal at this meeting is to pick a theme for the party and set up committees (for decorations, food, invitations, chaperones, etc.). Don't miss out on this opportunity to be a part of what will be a great party for our kids who are transitioning from Middle School to High School! Join us for the annual 8th Grade Science Fair Thursday, 3/23 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the Middle School Chapel. Come refresh your knowledge of the scientific method. Cheer on the budding scientists of the 21st century! A variety of art projects will be on display. This year we will also be featuring projects from a range of middle schoolers highlighting how they have been using technology to enhance their classroom projects and activities.

Snacks Donation: If you are interested in donating some non-perishable snacks for our students and tutors, we would appreciate it. Please drop these off at the Middle School office and let them know they are for the Homework Club. Thank you in advance. 

Found item at the Fine Arts Festival: A blue leather jacket (size M) was left at the Fine Arts Festival at the counter near the snack bar. The festival was held at New Life Community Church on 3/2/17. If it is yours, please contact Jill Schmidt at 714-348-2439.

VCMS Orientation & Study Skills (July 31 – Aug 4): Sign ups are coming soon for a summer class that will help your student discover the best ways to succeed through organization, time management, study strategies, and much more. This orientation is a great place to learn more about VCMS and meet new people before the year even begins. Students will master opening their locker and even get their schedule. This class is intended for all 7th graders and new 8th graders. Families can choose the 8:00-10:00 am session or the 10:30 am - 12:30 pm session. Cost $80.

Senior Parents: Send in Senior Year Pictures by Friday, 4/7: We are looking for pictures of your kids from Senior year. The pictures need to be school related (Dances, Games, Pep Rallies etc) because they will be used and displayed for the Senior Blessing, Tuesday, 6/6. Senior Parents Letting Go Worldview Meeting, 3/20 is CANCELLED. 
2017-18 International Student Hosting Info Meeting on 3/27: There will be an information meeting for families interested in hosting an International Student for VCS 2017-18 school year. This is a 10-month commitment and a stipend is paid to the family. The meeting will be on Monday, 3/27 at 7:00 pm at the High School Verhoeven College and Career Center. The Calvin College A Capella Choir Concert on Monday, 3/20: The choir is under the direction of Dr. Pearl Shangkuan and will perform a concert at 7:00 pm at Bethany Church (17054 Bixby Ave, Bellflower, CA 90706) on Monday, 3/20. Camp Dunamis: Camp Registrations & Youth Counselors Needed for Camp Dunamis. It is a fun Christian camp for middle school youth. Campers must be entering 7th, 8th or 9th grade in the fall. Camp dates are Sunday, 6/18 - Friday, 6/23. It is an intentionally multi-racial camp that strives to help youth grow deeper in love with God and each other, bringing reconciliation to the places that often divide us.
