New Mascot Voting 2/28 - 3/13: All current school parents, students grades 7-12, and staff will be sent an email with instructions and a unique code so they can vote for the new mascot one time. Alumni, parents of alumni, prior staff and supporters of VC will be mailed a postcard with information for how to vote. If you do not receive VC mailings, please click here and fill out the online registration by Tuesday, 2/27: www.vcschools.org/alumni.
VCHS Handbells will perform at Disneyland on Monday, 2/26 at 3:30 PM as part of Disneyland's Community Arts Showcase at California Adventure. The group will play on the Hollywood Backlot Stage. If you have a pass to Disneyland, we invite you to come! Congratulations to these students for making the audition!
Engineering Class Info Meeting on Monday, 2/26 at 7:30 PM - The following opportunity is open to all VC students currently in grades 8-11: VCHS, in partnership with Cerritos College, is offering an Introduction to Engineering Design class this summer. This is a dual enrollment opportunity scheduled for May 29 - June 29, 2018. Attendees receive a full year of high school elective credit as well as three CSU transferable college credits. More information will be provided on Monday, 2/26, at 7:30 PM in room B-18 on the high school campus.
Kindergarten Preview Day will be on Friday, 3/2 from 8:00-9:30 AM at VCES. Here's a wonderful way for prospective parents to visit our campus and focus on our Kindergarten program. They'll see teachers and students in action and explore specialty classes. Invite your friends! Tell them about our great TK-Kindergarten program. RSVP to join us at 562-920-9902. Moms in Prayer meets on Wednesdays, 8:30-9:15 AM in the VCES Conference Room. Praying together provides hope and strength to moms who carry heavy burdens for their children. Moms, grandmothers and friends of VCS are invited to meet and see the power of prayer as we pray for our children and our schools. For more information contact Taelin: vcsprayer@gmail.com. Costume Checks will begin this week.

- High School Cast: Any Monday or Thursday rehearsal 6:00-9:00 PM, or during a choir class and lunch, Wed-Fri.
- Please bring in all the pieces (including shoes and socks) for your required costume, listed here to your regularly scheduled rehearsal for costume check approval.

Trike-A-Thon is this Friday, 2/23: All children are invited to bring their bikes to school and enjoy a special day with exercise, fun, and a healthy snack. If your child does not normally attend on the Trike-A-Thon Day, parents are welcome to bring their child during their class riding time. Pledge forms can be turned in the week of the Trike-A-Thon. Riding and snack schedules are as follows:
- Tiny Tykes: 9:00-9:30 AM
- Busy Bee's: 9:30-10:00 AM
- Fantastic Friends: 10:00-10:30 AM

Parent/Teacher Conferences are March 6-8. Busy Bees and Fantastic Friends sign ups will be located next to the sign in/out sheets in the classrooms starting Wednesday, 2/21. If you have any questions or cannot attend on any of those days or time slots please talk with your child's teacher. Tiny Tykes conferences are by request only. If you would like a conference please talk with Ms. Crystal.
Preschool families can earn a credit towards their VCS tuition by using Scrip! Gas, grocery, visa and many retail stores and restaurants are available. Go to www.vcschools.org/scrip for more info.
Easter Break packet are available online and at the Daycare.
Science Club! - Chain Reaction: Valley Christian After School Science Club for grades K-6. Two classes are available for Wednesdays, 2/21, 2/28, 3/7, 3/14 and Thursdays, 2/22, 3/1, 3/8, 3/15 from 3:00-4:00 PM. Registration is open with a class size limit of 26. TK walk on Thursday, 2/22. Mrs. Haagsma's class will be taking a walk around the neighborhood this week.
Preparations for the Fine Arts Festival for students in grades 5-8 are underway. For those selected to go on, the Interscholastic Fine Arts Festival is on Thursday, 3/1 at New Life Community Church in Artesia during the school day. If you have any questions about the festival, please contact your child's music teacher for more information.
1st and 2nd grade musical, "Sing Out, America" is on Thursday, 2/22 at 7:00 PM. You are invited to come and enjoy this patriotic musical to celebrate President's Day and the freedom we have in the USA! The program will be held at Bethany CRC, 17054 Bixby Ave, Bellflower. All students need to wear blue jeans or pants (no shorts please) with a red, white, and/or blue shirt. Please meet at 6:40 PM in the Friendship Center for warm ups.
Walk Through The Revolution for 5th grade on Friday, 2/23.
Skatedogs Mobile Skateboard Park will be offering another class at the elementary campus on Fridays, beginning March 2nd, nine sessions. Information and registration forms can be found here. Class space is limited, early registration is recommended.
Yearbook recognition ads will be accepted through Thursday, 3/15. Parents, are you looking for a creative way to tell your student, “I love you and I’m proud of you?" Place a recognition ad in the yearbook by contacting Arodriguez@vcschools.org
Trot for Technology on Friday, 4/13 : Help is needed to plan it! We are looking for a few parents who will help organize and run this annual event. Each year we host a jog-a-thon fundraiser to raise money for elementary school technology. Last year we raised over $45,000! Email rvankampen@vcschools.org if you can help.
Tryouts for the VCES Talent Show are 3/14 & 3/15 at lunchtime. Students in 1st - 6th grade who would like to participate in the talent show on Friday 4/13 should start planning their ideas and coordinating with their family and/or friends. Ideas include: joke telling, gymnastics, puppet show, impressions, live art, yoyo or pogo stick demonstration, skit, instrumental solo or ensemble, singing, dancing or jump rope routine. No lip syncing please. It doesn't need to be long- acts are 3 minutes or less. An application signed by a parent is required to try out applications will be available online or in the VCES front office this month.
Current 6th graders: The VCMS Camp Orientation & Study Skills camp is on July 30 - Aug. 3. Sign up to discover the best ways to succeed through organization, time management, study strategies, and much more. This orientation is a great place to learn more about VCMS and meet new people before the school year even begins. Students will master opening their locker and even get their schedule. Mark your calendars; sign ups are coming soon! This class is intended for all 2018-2019 7th graders and new 8th graders. Families can choose the 8:00-10:00 AM session or the 10:30 AM-12:30 PM session. Cost $80.

Duct Tape Teacher to a Wall Fundraiser on Friday, 2/23 - 7th vs 8th Grade! Bring $5 any day this week and turn in to advisement teacher to get a piece of duct tape. Proceeds to go toward buying raffle prizes for the auction.
8th Grade Graduation Dance planning meeting on Monday, 2/26 from 7:00 - 8:30 PM in room HH 49 at VCHS. All parents and guardians of 8th graders are welcome to attend.
Parents 8th Grade Students - Off to Valley Christian High School! Join us Tuesday, 2/27 at 7:00 PM in the VCMS chapel. Your child’s freshman year will be one full of transition as he or she goes from ‘tween to teen. In this spirit, we invite every parent of a Valley Christian 8th grader to attend a special night with Ron Taylor focused on the transition to high school. Please reserve your seat here.
Pep Squad Mandatory Parent/Student Informational meeting will be Monday, 3/12 at 6:30 PM in the HS Band Room. 8th Grade Parents, mark your calendars! The VCHS 8th to 9th Night will be Monday, 3/19 at 7:00 PM in the High School Legacy Chapel. Join us for an introduction to High School life! All students entering 9th grade in the fall of 2018-2019 and their parents are welcome to join us. You'll hear about life in High School and the many activities that you can be a part of. Questions? Robotics: The EPIC Robotz Team would like to invite the VCS Family to join us Tuesday, 2/20 (TONIGHT!) at 8:00 PM in VCHS Legacy Chapel for the presentation of the 2018 Robot. This year we will be competing at the Bren Event Center located on the University of California, Irvine campus, 3/23 & 3/24. This will be the only competition for the team this year, so be sure to mark your calendars and join us!

Senior Parents - did you know VCHS alumni and supporters donate thousands of dollars in scholarship money for our graduating seniors? Scholarship information is available outside the Counselor’s office in the Verhoeven College and Career Center - encourage your student to check out the scholarship applications. These applications are due to the Attendance Desk by Thursday, 3/29.

Free AP Review Weekend, February 24-25 Students need a minimum score of 3 to pass their AP tests-let Kaplan help them achieve that with the Free AP Review Weekend. They are covering Biology, Calculus AB, US History and World History in one-hour, live, interactive sessions for each subject. Mini College Fair at VCHS, Tuesday 3/20/18 from 11:35 AM-12:25 PMStudents can stop by the Quad Area on Tuesday, 3/20 where Regional Admissions Counselors for California (RACC) will be hosting a Mini College Fair on our campus during lunch.
