Preschool
Picture Day: Preschool picture day! Check your child's file folder for a flyer indicating which day your child will be taking pictures (Thursday 9/12 OR Friday 9/13)! If you cannot find your child's form, please see Mrs. Sara to find out which day they will be taking a picture.
File Review: The preschool office will be reviewing files over the next few weeks. Please see Mrs. Sara if you receive a paper indicating missing items or if you would like to update any important information within your child's file.
Parent Service Hours: Hot Lunch Pick Up: Calling all half-day parents. Would you like to earn your 10 hours of service for the school year? We are looking for parent volunteers to choose 1 day per week to pick up hot lunch at our elementary school at 11:25 AM and then drop it off at the preschool when you pick up your preschool child. Please see Mrs. Sara for more information or to sign up. Wednesday, and Friday are available!

Elementary School
Parenting with Purpose: Join us Tuesday, 9/17 from 6:30 -7:30 PM in the VCES Multipurpose Room for Parenting with Purpose, a parent gathering geared toward equipping and empowering parents of elementary students. Our school counselor, Mrs. Stahl, will facilitate a time of discussing Parts 1 and 2 from The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt. Join our staff and parents in discussing helpful strategies and camaraderie in making play-based childhood a priority in a phone-based culture. Student Pictures will be available for you to view and order online. An email will be sent to you within the next couple weeks from Classic Image Photography with the information needed to view your child's pictures. Please check your emails. MAPS Testing for students in grades K-6th will take place until 9/13. Testing will be at various times throughout the day depending on the classroom schedule. Please make sure your student gets a good night's rest, eats breakfast, and arrives at school on time.
Day Care hours on the Elementary campus are now 7:00 - 8:00 AM and 2:45 - 5:30 PM for Transitional Kindergarten - 8th grade.
5th & 6th Grade Athletics: Due to the weather conditions, the Boys Flag Football and Girls Basketball tryouts have been changed to Wednesday, 9/11 and Thursday, 9/12, from 3:00 - 4:30 PM on the VCES campus. The Fall Fundraiser Kick Off begins 9/11 and will run through 9/25. Information will be sent home with students on 9/11.

Science Club! - Discover the World of Engineering & Design: Valley Christian After School Science Club for grade K-6. Three classes are available on Wednesdays, 9/11-11/13, Thursdays, 9/12-11/14 and Fridays, 9/13-11/15 from 3:00-4:00 PM. Classes will run for 10 weeks. Registration is open with a class size limit of 26. More information and registration can be found here.
Skatedogs Mobile Skateboard Park will be offering an 8-session class for students in K-6th at the elementary campus on Fridays, beginning 9/20. Information and registration forms may be found here. Class space is limited and early registration is recommended.
Student Drop-Off Items To ensure the safety and well-being for all students and staff, please note the drop off procedures below. Please enter through the walk-through gate north of the office. We appreciate your cooperation in adhering to these guidelines.
- Instruments, homework etc. may be dropped off on or near the cart outside the front office.
- Lunch drop off may be placed on the cart outside the front office. Fast food lunch drop offs should only be used for emergencies or a special occasion. This should NOT be a daily or weekly occurrence for your child.
- Please ensure that lunches, homework, instruments, etc. are labeled with the student's full name and class so they may be delivered to students in a timely manner.
Middle School

VC Event Supervision - Parents, please be aware that at all extra curricular events (VCHS Football games, Harvest Festival, Cocoa & Carols, etc.) we do have personnel and hired security on site for campus safety. We do not have teachers on duty to supervise students. Please be sure to attend events with your student(s) or make sure you are sending them with someone who will be present for their care.
This week is homecoming week at the middle school! To celebrate, we will have some fun dress-up days and activities. ***Please note all students must be within our dress code in the VCMS handbook for all dress up days. If students choose not to dress up, then they must be in uniform. Go VCS!

Coaches Needed! We are in need of coaches for our fall sports teams. We have an opening for D1 and D2 boys flag football coaches. Drop-Off and Pick-Up Help Needed! We’re looking for volunteers to direct traffic in front of school each morning (7:45 - 8:15 AM) and afternoon (2:40 - 3:05 PM). It’s a neat way to welcome students, get plugged into the community, and increase drop-off and pick-up efficiency. Plus, you’ll get to count it as service hours. Pick one day of the week for a month, two months, semester—as long as you would like! Please contact the office at VCMSOffice@vcschools.org to reserve your spot.
Riding the bus as a guest? If your student will be riding the bus home with a friend as a guest, they must bring a parents' permission note to the middle school office and request a bus pass. They will not be able to ride the bus without a pass!
High School
Robotics Parent Meeting - Tuesday, 9/10 at 8:00 PM in room B18 If you're interested in learning more about robotics or signing up for the fall season robotics please join us for a parent information meeting. This meeting will cover essential information for the robotics fall season and is highly encouraged for new families. Parent Book Study: Join the HS administration for a book discussion this year of The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt. Our first meeting will be next Thursday, 9/19, in the High School Library, where we will discuss Part 1 of the book (pgs. 1-45). Homecoming Dance Tickets: Tickets for the "A Night in Rio" homecoming dance will be on sale Tuesday, September 10th - Thursday, September 12th at breaks and at lunch for $10 each. If you don't buy a pre-sale ticket, tickets are $20 at the door. Please note you will not be allowed to buy a ticket in the pre-sale OR at the door if you haven't submitted your Handbook Acknowledgement form. The Homecoming Dance is ONLY for VCHS students--guests will not be allowed to attend. It will take place right after the home football game on Friday, September 13th, and will end at 11 pm. Dress in your best Brazilian-inspired attire, but be sure to read up on the dress code in the student handbook so you don't miss out on all the fun!
2024 VCHS Homecoming Dance Help Needed! We are expecting over 400 kids for this year’s homecoming dance on Friday, 9/13. The dance is immediately following the football game. We need snacks and drinks for the kids AND need chaperones. If you are willing to help, sign up through this LINK. Parent service hours will be given.
Homecoming Spirit Week Dress-Up Days! Show your spirit by participating in the following dress-up days as part of Homecoming Spirit Week! Teachers will vote for the class level that shows the most school spirit with the highest ratio of participation. The winning class year will get a pajama bottom day on Friday, September 20th! Will the Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, or Seniors win? (Students whose "costume" is not clear or shows borderline effort, will not be tallied in the dress code competition). Students must be dressed to the theme of the day, or they must be in uniform.

Attention Juniors and Seniors: Do you want to go on an exciting college visit to help you decide what to do after high school? Have you wondered what it would be like to visit a Christian college 2,000 miles away from home? Join a group of students on a trip to check out Dordt University. The trip will include visiting with professors and coaches, staying overnight on campus, attending activities, and more. The trip will be from October 31 to November 2. You will only miss one day of school and Dordt University will cover most of your expenses! See Mr. Kooi or email him for the details (ekooi@vcschools.org).

Valley Christian Schools honors and celebrates the life of long-time faculty member Stan Cole. Mr. Cole served VCHS as an English teacher and counselor from 1969-2000, and is remembered fondly for the school plays he directed, the tutoring that he facilitated, and the many service projects he spearheaded. A funeral service for Mr. Cole will be held this Saturday, September 7 at 10:00 AM at Bethany Christian Reformed Church, 17054 Bixby Ave, Bellflower, CA 90706. https://www.dignitymemorial.

Coding Class: Do you want your child to learn how to code? Come check out the beginner courses for newbie coders and experienced coders. Classes will be held on Thursdays from 3:00-4:00, beginning 10/17 for six weeks at VCES. Easy, convenient, and your child will learn a valuable skill set. Limited space! Book today! Picture Day: Preschool picture day dates have changed! Please mark your calendar for Thursday, September 12 and Friday, September 14. If either of these are days your child does NOT attend, feel free to bring them between 8:30-10:30 to snap a quick picture.
File Review: The preschool office will be reviewing files over the next few weeks. Please see Mrs. Sara if you receive a paper indicating missing items or if you would like to update any important information within your child's file.
Parent Service Hours: Hot Lunch Pick Up: Calling all half-day parents. Would you like to earn your 10 hours of service for the school year? We are looking for parent volunteers to choose 1 day per week to pick up hot lunch at our elementary school at 11:25 AM and then drop it off at the preschool when you pick up your preschool child. Student Drop-Off Items To ensure the safety and well-being for all students and staff, please note the drop off procedures below. Please enter through the walk-through gate north of the office. We appreciate your cooperation in adhering to these guidelines.
- Instruments, homework etc. may be dropped off on or near the cart outside the front office.
- Lunch drop off may be placed on the cart outside the front office. Fast food lunch drop offs should only be used for emergencies or a special occasion. This should NOT be a daily or weekly occurrence for your child.

Middle School
Picture Day is tomorrow, Tuesday, August 27: Please have your student wear a free dress top (in accordance to the school dress code) and a uniform bottom. Classic Image has gone digital so there are no longer physical order forms. You will receive an email with order instructions after Picture Day.

School Backpacks and Folders: All backpacks and folders brought to school must be able to fit in a student's locker. Backpacks with wheels and extra large binders/folders will not fit. You are welcome to stop by the school to measure the space before you shop for new items.

Senior Parents - please mark your calendars - there will be a mandatory senior class meeting this Wednesday, 8/28 at 8:15 AM. This is for students only, but we ask that parents help remind their students to get to school earlier than normal on that Wednesday morning. Thank you!

Attention Juniors and Seniors: Do you want to go on an exciting college visit to help you decide what to do after high school? Have you wondered what it would like to visit a Christian college 2,000 miles away from home? Join a group of students on a trip to check out Dordt University. The trip will include visiting with professors and coaches, staying overnight on campus, attending activities, and more. The trip will be from October 31 to November 2. Boot camp is designed to give students new to robotics a hands-on tour of the robotics program. VCHS Handbell Auditions 2024-2025
- The exam schedule is posted on the High School Student page in Canvas and at www.vcschools.org/hsresources
- Attendance during Exam Week: Please DO NOT schedule appointments between 8:00 AM-Noon during exam week. If your child is too sick to take exams, contact the Attendance Desk at 562-865-0281, ext. 227 or by emailing sdoornbos@vcschools.org.
- While exams are in progress (8:30-10:00 AM and 10:30 AM-12:00 PM) students may not enter or leave campus.
- Students should arrive on campus before 8:30 AM, or between 10:00-10:30 AM (depending on their exam schedule). While on campus, students who are not taking exams will be required to be in a testing room or remain in the library for the duration of the testing period. If a student does not have an exam, he or she is not required to be on campus.
- There is no school for high school students in the afternoon on exam days.
- VCHS students are not allowed to visit other campuses until 2:45 PM.
- The canteen and coffee shop will be open from 8:00-8:30 AM and 10:00-10:30 AM - Monday-Wednesday.
- Buses will run at regular times (8:00 AM drop off, 2:45 PM departure) on Monday-Wednesday.
- The library will be open until 2:30 PM, Monday-Wednesday.
- Uniforms must be worn during finals or students will not be allowed to take final exams.
- There is no school for high school students on Thursday, 5/23 (even though the other campuses have a half day that day).
- Students won't be cleared to take exams until their financial obligations to the Library are cleared.
