Parenting with Purpose: We're getting together on Tuesday, 10/15 from 6:30 - 7:30 PM in the VCES Multipurpose Room to discuss Part 3 in The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt.  We'll discuss the implication of a phone-based culture on the health and wellness of our children.  Parents and teachers that attended in September felt the dialogue was so worthwhile that they are coming back with friends.  Won't you join us too?  Childcare is provided by our VCHS mission team for a donation.  RSVP for childcare here

Preschool

Grandparents Day: We are excited to invite VCPS grandparents to lunch with their grandchild on Friday 10/25 at 11:30 AM. Signup Genius for donations has been sent via email. If you have not RSVP'd on behalf of your child's grandparent or special friend, please do so this week (next to sign in/out sheet). 

October is Fire and Earthquake Safety Month. We will be talking a lot about these two topics and practicing our drills on Monday 10/14 and Tuesday 10/15.

Elementary School

Sensory Screening Results for Grades TK, K, 1st grade boys, 2nd and 5th - Forms from Southern California Sensory Screening for students whose screening results were within normal range, will be sent home with your child today. If it was recommended for your child to have a follow-up visit with their physician, as per the results of the hearing and/or vision screening; emails will be sent to those parents by 10/11.

Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled to be held during the month of October. Your child's teacher will reach out to you to schedule your conference date and time.

BIRTHDAY GRAMSWant to celebrate a High School or Elementary students’ birthday with the high school Madrigals Choir?! The Madrigals will deliver a home baked treat or goody bag along with a special rendition of happy birthday to make their day extra special for only $20. 4th Grade Walk Through California will be held on Wednesday, 10/9

The 4th Grade Musical - Please join us for our first musical of the year! 4th grade will be presenting 'The Phantom of the Music Room' on Tuesday, 10/8 at 7:00 PM at Bell One CRC located at 17603 Ardmore Ave Bellflower, CA  90706.

VCES Grandparents Day - Friday, 10/25, 1:30-2:30 PM.  Join us for a fun afternoon outdoors with your grandkid(s). Play games, do crafts, take photos together, and top it off with ice cream! A family friend or relative may also join us!

Harvest Festival Student Bus Pass information forms will be sent home with students. A copy of this form can be found here.

VC Elementary Coat Drive - As you clean out your coat closet, think about sharing the warmth and giving your gently used jackets and coats new life by donating them to our winter coat drive. All sizes needed! Jackets and coats will be donated to people in need in and around our city.  Donations will be welcomed through November 8, items can be dropped off at the VCES office.

The Kids Cheer Clinic is coming for girls in grades 1st-6th! Save the Date! Come join our Defenders Song and Cheer Teams for a week of cheering, dancing, and fun! Participants will get the chance to cheer on the sidelines and perform in the halftime routine at our Harvest Festival football game on October 25th! Science Club! - Discover the World of Engineering & Design: Valley Christian After-School Science Club for grades K-6. Three classes are available on Wednesdays, 9/11-11/13, Thursdays, 9/12-11/14 and Fridays, 9/13-11/15 from 3:00-4:00 PM. Classes will run for 10 weeks. Registration is open with a class size limit of 26.   More information and registration can be found here.

Coding Class: Do you want your child to learn how to code? Come check out the beginner courses for newbie coders and experienced coders for grades 2-5. Classes will be held on Thursdays from 3:00-4:00 PM, beginning 10/17 for six weeks at VCES. Pop Tabs: We are partnering with The Ronald McDonald House to help families in their time of need by collecting Pop Tabs. Students may bring in their pop tabs at any time.


 

Middle School

There will be a VCMS Preview Event this Thursday, 10/10 at 9:00 AM. Tell your family and friends! This is a great opportunity for them to tour our campus and hear all about what VCMS has to offer.

You're Invited! Thursday, 10/10, 7:00 PM - The VCMS Instrumental Music Department will present their fall concert at Bethany Christian Reformed Church in Bellflower. The concert will feature the Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Handbells, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, and Jazz Band.

End of the 1st quarter at VCMS is Friday, 10/11.

The Q1 Bash. To celebrate the end of the first quarter, we will have a celebratory bash for all middle school students. This event will take place on Friday, October 11, from 12:40-2:45 PM. This event will include inflatable games, bubble soccer, sporting tournaments, arts and crafts,etc. We want to celebrate a great first quarter and reward our students for their hard work and good attitudes! While these activities will be free of charge to students, we would welcome and appreciate donations of any amount. If you feel so inclined to donate to this event, please bring cash or a check made payable to VCS to the middle school office by October 11th. In addition to the above activities, the Kona Ice Truck will be here to offer treats to students. Please send $5-$7 to school with your student that day if they would like to purchase a delicious shaved ice treat!

VCMS Student-Led Conferences will be the week of 10/28-10/31. More information will be coming from your students' advisement teachers. Be on the lookout!

Save The Date! The VCMS Fall Choir Concert will be on 10/29 at 7:00 PM in the VCHS Legacy Chapel.

Coach David Smith, our HS girls golf coach, has put together a golf training program for VC middle school and high school girls to prepare interested perspective golfers who would like to improve their game and prepare them for the 25-26 golf season.  This is a 5 week program each Monday, Wednesday and Friday in November-December.  You can CLICK here for sign ups. Contact Coach Smith at dasgolflessons@gmail.com for all questions and further information.

Wednesday, 10/16 is Testing Day at VCHS - starting at 8:15 AM. Please avoid scheduling appointments this day and make sure that your students get plenty of rest and have a good breakfast.

  • Uniforms are required.
  • 9th graders will not be taking a test, but will be participating in various activities throughout multiple sessions that morning; ie: worship, 4 year academic/college planning, etc.
  • 10th and 11th graders will be taking the PSAT/NMSQT. Make sure to bring your Ipad as the test is digital.
  • 12th graders have the option to stay home, make a college visit, or take the SAT (sign ups have been completed) Those who signed up for the SAT will receive a separate email with more details. 
  • Please note that school will start at 8:15 AM (unlike most Wednesdays that start at 9:00 AM). Please arrive by 8:00 AM to find your testing room. Students will not necessarily finish at the same time, but the day will end at approximately 11:30 AM.
  • There is no lunch service on testing day.
  • High school students are not permitted to visit other VCS campuses until after 2:45 PM.
  • Buses will run their normal schedules.

Do you have a student in band or orchestra? The Band and Orchestra Parent Association (BOPA) would love to have you join us! We are a group of parents who help the music directors raise funds and plan fun events for 5th-12th grade, such as Cocoa and Carols and Music Movie Night! Our next meeting is tonight,  Monday, 9/30 at 7:00 PM at the high school office. 
 
Late Start this Wednesday, 10/2 - TK-12 will have a late start at 9:00 AM, but the buses will still run their morning routes at normal times.

Do you ever worry about your kids? Lift them up in prayer at VCS Moms in Prayer! Meetings are structured (we follow a prayer sheet) and confidential. We pray for VC students, teachers and the school - as well as our own children. Anyone (students included) can leave prayer requests in the boxes in the school offices. Come weekly or occasionally. Elementary School

Daycare at the Elementary campus will be open on Monday, October 7th.  Here is the link to sign up.  We need to have 15 students sign up by September 30th.

Late Start Date - School will begin at 9:00 AM for students TK-12 on Wednesday, 10/2. 

4th Grade students will be going to the Artesia Christian Home to visit the residents on Wednesday, 10/2.

Southern California Sensory Screeninwill be held on Wednesday, 10/2.  Students in grades TK, K, 2nd & 5th for vision and hearing, and 1st grade boys for colorblindness at no charge. An informational form was sent home with your student last week. If you would like your child screened for any additional tests or are in a grade other than what is listed above, please fill out and return this additional testing form.

Middle School

The October Late-Start Day will be this Wednesday, October 2.  Here are a few details to help you plan -

  • School will begin at 9:00 AM
  • The school day will still end at 2:45 PM

  • Please help us and drop your child off at school 45 minutes later than usual.
  • Middle School: The library and outside lunch area will be open for those who still need the normal 8:00 AM drop-off time.

Senior Parents! The first Senior Off-Campus lunch will take place this Friday, 10/4. Please remind your students to drive safely, order ahead, and be back on time so they don't lose this privilege in the future. The lunch time that day will be from 11:40-12:25. Your permission for driving options was indicated on the Field Trip Permission Slip 2024-2025. If you have any questions, please contact hsinfo@vcschools.org.

Wednesday, 10/16 is Testing Day at VCHS - starting at 8:15 AM. Please avoid scheduling appointments this day and make sure that your students get plenty of rest and have a good breakfast.

  • Uniforms are required.
  • 9th graders will not be taking a test, but will be participating in various activities throughout multiple sessions that morning; ie: worship, 4 year academic/college planning, etc.
  • 10th and 11th graders will be taking the PSAT/NMSQT
  • 12th graders have the option to stay home, make a college visit, or take the SAT (sign ups have been completed) Those who signed up for the SAT will receive a separate email with more details. 
  • Please note that school will start at 8:15 AM (unlike most Wednesdays that start at 9:00 AM). Please arrive by 8:00 AM to find your testing room. Students will not necessarily finish at the same time, but the day will end at approximately 11:30 AM.
  • There is no lunch service on testing day.
  • High school students are not permitted to visit other VCS campuses until after 2:45 PM.
  • Buses will run their normal schedules.

Elementary School

Daycare at the Elementary campus will be open on Monday, October 7th.  Here is the link to sign up.  We need to have 15 students sign up by September 30th.

The Fall Fundraiser will run through this week Wednesday, 9/25. Information was sent home with students on 9/11 and can also be found here.  All of the money raised goes towards making Valley Christian Elementary wonderful for our students. We will use these funds for field trips, classroom materials, playground equipment, and much more. We thank you in advance for your support!

Spirit Day - 'Neon Spirit Day' Monday, September 30 - Show your school spirit by dressing in your best neon colors!  Spirit Day is optional. If you choose not to participate, please be in uniform.

Southern California Sensory Screeninwill be held on Wednesday, October 2.  Students in grades TK, K, 2nd & 5th for vision and hearing, and 1st grade boys for colorblindness at no charge. An informational form was sent home with your student last week. If you would like your child screened for any additional tests or are in a grade other than what is listed above, please fill out and return this additional testing form.

The Kids Cheer Clinic is coming for girls in grades 1st-6th! Save the Date! Come join our Defenders Song and Cheer Teams for a week of cheering, dancing, and fun! Participants will get the chance to cheer on the sideline and perform in the halftime routine at our Harvest Festival football game on October 25th! 4th Grade Walk Through California will be held on Wednesday, 10/9

Fall Enrichment Classes: Classes will be held on TUESDAYS - 3:00-4:00 PM, for five weeks, 10/1 - 10/29.  There are still a few spots open in Photography, Rugby, and Wiffle Ball. Information and registration form can be found here.

 

Science Club! - Discover the World of Engineering & Design: Valley Christian After-School Science Club for grade K-6. Three classes are available on Wednesdays, 9/11-11/13, Thursdays, 9/12-11/14 and Fridays, 9/13-11/15 from 3:00-4:00 PM. Classes will run for 10 weeks. Skatedogs Mobile Skateboard Park will be offering an 8-session class for students in K-6th at the elementary campus on Fridays, beginning 9/20. Information and registration forms may be found here. Class space is limited and early registration is recommended.

Coding Class: Do you want your child to learn how to code? Come check out the beginner courses for newbie coders and experienced coders. Classes will be held on Thursdays from 3:00-4:00 PM, beginning 10/17 for six weeks at VCES. Student Drop-Off Items To ensure the safety and well-being for all students and staff, please note the drop-off procedures below. Please enter through the walk-through gate north of the office. We appreciate your cooperation in adhering to these guidelines.
  • Instruments, homework etc. may be dropped off on or near the cart outside the front office.
  • Lunch drop off may be placed on the cart outside the front office. Fast food lunch drop offs should only be used for emergencies or a special occasion. This should NOT be a daily or weekly occurrence for your child.
  • Please ensure that lunches, homework, instruments, etc. are labeled with the student's full name and class so they may be delivered to students in a timely manner.
 

 

Middle School

Hot Lunch Orders are due by Friday, September 27.

Middle School Play: If your child is participating in the middle school play, rehearsals have begun and will be on Mondays and Wednesdays, 3:00-4:30 PM. Helmets - If your child rides a bicycle, electric bike, electric scooter, or another piece of transportation equipment, they must wear a helmet at all times while riding to and from school. For the safety of your child, please help ensure this is happening.

Your student’s 1st Quarter Progress Report grades will be finalized by Tuesday morning. To see the 1st Quarter Progress Report you will need to log into PowerSchool. Once you have logged in, look on the left side for student reports. Click on student reports and you will be able to locate the P1 Grade Report. As a reminder, progress report grades are not final and reflect how your student is doing halfway into the quarter.

Blood Drive - The Valley Christian High School Service Class is partnering with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive on the High School campus on September 10th from 8:30 AM-2:30 PM. Preschool

Picture Day: Preschool picture day! Check your child's file folder for a flyer indicating which day your child will be taking pictures (Thursday 9/12 OR Friday 9/13)! If you cannot find your child's form, please see Mrs. Sara to find out which day they will be taking a picture. 

File Review: The preschool office will be reviewing files over the next few weeks. Please see Mrs. Sara if you receive a paper indicating missing items or if you would like to update any important information within your child's file.

Parent Service Hours: Hot Lunch Pick Up: Calling all half-day parents. Would you like to earn your 10 hours of service for the school year? We are looking for parent volunteers to choose 1 day per week to pick up hot lunch at our elementary school at 11:25 AM and then drop it off at the preschool when you pick up your preschool child. Please see Mrs. Sara for more information or to sign up. Wednesday, and Friday are available!

Elementary School

Parenting with Purpose: Join us Tuesday, 9/17 from 6:30 -7:30 PM in the VCES Multipurpose Room for Parenting with Purpose, a parent gathering geared toward equipping and empowering parents of elementary students. Our school counselor, Mrs. Stahl, will facilitate a time of discussing Parts 1 and 2 from The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt. Join our staff and parents in discussing helpful strategies and camaraderie in making play-based childhood a priority in a phone-based culture. Student Pictures will be available for you to view and order online. An email will be sent to you within the next couple weeks from Classic Image Photography with the information needed to view your child's pictures. MAPS Testing for students in grades K-6th will take place until 9/13. Testing will be at various times throughout the day depending on the classroom schedule. Please make sure your student gets a good night's rest, eats breakfast, and arrives at school on time.

Day Care hours on the Elementary campus are now 7:00 - 8:00 AM and 2:45 - 5:30 PM for Transitional Kindergarten - 8th grade.

5th & 6th Grade Athletics: Due to the weather conditions, the Boys Flag Football and Girls Basketball tryouts have been changed to Wednesday, 9/11 and Thursday, 9/12, from 3:00 - 4:30 PM on  the VCES campus. More information can be found here. The Fall Fundraiser Kick Off begins 9/11 and will run through 9/25. Information will be sent home with students on 9/11.

Science Club! - Discover the World of Engineering & Design: Valley Christian After School Science Club for grade K-6. Three classes are available on Wednesdays, 9/11-11/13, Thursdays, 9/12-11/14 and Fridays, 9/13-11/15 from 3:00-4:00 PM. Classes will run for 10 weeks. Registration is open with a class size limit of 26.   More information and registration can be found here.

Skatedogs Mobile Skateboard Park will be offering an 8-session class for students in K-6th at the elementary campus on Fridays, beginning 9/20. Information and registration forms may be found here. Class space is limited and early registration is recommended.

 

Coding Class: Do you want your child to learn how to code? Come check out the beginner courses for newbie coders and experienced coders. Classes will be held on Thursdays from 3:00-4:00, beginning 10/17 for six weeks at VCES. VCES Student Absences: If your child is going to be absent from school, please notify the elementary office by 8:30 AM at VCESOffice@vcschools.org or by calling the office at 562-920-9902. Thank you.
 
Pop Tabs: We are partnering with The Ronald McDonald House to help families in their time of need by collecting Pop Tabs. Students may bring in their pop tabs at any time.
 
Early Pick-Up - If you are picking up your child early for an appointment, please do so before 2:30 PM.  No pick up between 2:30-2:45 PM for security purposes.

Student Drop-Off Items To ensure the safety and well-being for all students and staff, please note the drop off procedures below. Please enter through the walk-through gate north of the office. We appreciate your cooperation in adhering to these guidelines.

  • Instruments, homework etc. may be dropped off on or near the cart outside the front office.
  • Lunch drop off may be placed on the cart outside the front office. Fast food lunch drop offs should only be used for emergencies or a special occasion. This should NOT be a daily or weekly occurrence for your child.
  • Please ensure that lunches, homework, instruments, etc. are labeled with the student's full name and class so they may be delivered to students in a timely manner.
 

 

Middle School

Are you new to Valley Christian Schools?  Join us tomorrow night at 6:00 PM on the VCHS campus. Enjoy a meal, meet and mingle with VC staff and new parents while learning about your opportunities for making the most of your family’s time at Valley Christian Schools. This evening is for parents only.

VC Event Supervision - Parents, please be aware that at all extra curricular events (VCHS Football games, Harvest Festival, Cocoa & Carols, etc.) we do have personnel and hired security on site for campus safety. We do not have teachers on duty to supervise students. Please be sure to attend events with your student(s) or make sure you are sending them with someone who will be present for their care.

This week is homecoming week at the middle school! To celebrate, we will have some fun dress-up days and activities.  ***Please note all students must be within our dress code in the VCMS handbook for all dress up days. If students choose not to dress up, then they must be in uniform. Go VCS!

We are finishing up our last week of MAPS testing. Please make sure your child is getting plenty of sleep and eating a healthy breakfast.

Coaches Needed! We are in need of coaches for our fall sports teams. We have an opening for D1 and D2 boys flag football coaches.  The seasons will run from September - mid November and these are paid positions. Drop-Off and Pick-Up Help Needed! We’re looking for volunteers to direct traffic in front of school each morning (7:45 - 8:15 AM) and afternoon (2:40 - 3:05 PM). It’s a neat way to welcome students, get plugged into the community, and increase drop-off and pick-up efficiency. Plus, you’ll get to count it as service hours. Pick one day of the week for a month, two months, semester—as long as you would like! Please contact the office at VCMSOffice@vcschools.org to reserve your spot.

Riding the bus as a guest? If your student will be riding the bus home with a friend as a guest, they must bring a parents' permission note to the middle school office and request a bus pass. They will not be able to ride the bus without a pass!

Robotics Parent Meeting - Tuesday, 9/10 at 8:00 PM in room B18  If you're interested in learning more about robotics or signing up for the fall season robotics please join us for a parent information meeting.  This meeting will cover essential information for the robotics fall season and is highly encouraged for new families. Registration is now open for Robotics Fall Season Fall season kick off is September 14th 9:00 AM-3:00 PM so sign up soon! Please go to http://go.vcschools.org/techcamps to register and pay. The fee for the fall season is $300. Meeting times are Tuesdays 6:30-9:00 PM and Saturdays 9:00 AM-3:00 PM Meetings will run through November 12! 

Parent Book Study: Join the HS administration for a book discussion this year of The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt. Our first meeting will be next Thursday, 9/19, in the High School Library, where we will discuss Part 1 of the book (pgs. 1-45). Homecoming Dance Tickets: Tickets for the "A Night in Rio" homecoming dance will be on sale Tuesday, September 10th - Thursday, September 12th at breaks and at lunch for $10 each. If you don't buy a pre-sale ticket, tickets are $20 at the door. Please note you will not be allowed to buy a ticket in the pre-sale OR at the door if you haven't submitted your Handbook Acknowledgement form. The Homecoming Dance is ONLY for VCHS students--guests will not be allowed to attend. It will take place right after the home football game on Friday, September 13th, and will end at 11 pm. Dress in your best Brazilian-inspired attire, but be sure to read up on the dress code in the student handbook so you don't miss out on all the fun!

2024 VCHS Homecoming Dance Help Needed! We are expecting over 400 kids for this year’s homecoming dance on Friday, 9/13. The dance is immediately following the football game. We need snacks and drinks for the kids AND need chaperones. If you are willing to help, sign up through this LINK. Parent service hours will be given.

Homecoming Spirit Week Dress-Up Days! Show your spirit by participating in the following dress-up days as part of Homecoming Spirit Week! Teachers will vote for the class level that shows the most school spirit with the highest ratio of participation. The winning class year will get a pajama bottom day on Friday, September 20th! Will the Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, or Seniors win? (Students whose "costume" is not clear or shows borderline effort, will not be tallied in the dress code competition). Students must be dressed to the theme of the day, or they must be in uniform.
