Tickets are on sale now for the VCS Annual Fundraiser and Auction at the Mayne Events Center in Bellflower on Friday, February 20th. Currently, tickets are $50 each, but the price will increase to $75 on January 17th. Blood Drive - The Valley Christian High School Service Class is partnering with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive on the high school campus on January 13th, 8:30 AM-2:30 PM. Parents will receive one parent service hour for donating blood. Did you know that one pint of blood saves three lives? Financial Aid Update - The December 31 deadline to submit Financial Aid applications for the 2026–27 school year has passed. Late applications will continue to be reviewed; however, any awards granted will be based on the availability of remaining funds. Families will be notified of award decisions via email once reviews are completed, by the first week of February. For more information, please visit the Tuition & Financial Aid page on our website https://www.vcschools.org/admissions/tuition-information. Questions about Variable Tuition Assistance may be directed to variabletuition@vcschools.org.  For questions regarding the FACTS application, please contact FACTS directly at 866-412-4637.

The Spirit Store will be open Thursday, January 15th, 3:00-4:30 PM and Friday, January 30th, 5:00-7:00 PM. The Spirit Store sells VC t-shirts, sweatshirts, jackets, hats, and socks. VCS Employment Opportunities: 

Preschool

Field trip to elementary school will be on Wednesday, January 21st. This field trip is for children who are graduating preschool and moving on to TK or Kindergarten in the 2026/27 school year. A permission slip was placed in your child's file last week. Parents are also invited to attend this fun trip with their child but not required. The bus begins loading at 9:05 AM and will return to preschool by 11:00 AM. If you need to drive separately, please be at the elementary school by 9:15 AM

Parent/Teacher Conferences will take place the week of January 26-30. This is a time for Pre-K parents (Mrs. Ericka and Ms. Jamie's class) and parents of children in Ms. Tricia's class who will attend TK next year (Birthday between September and December) to meet with teachers and discuss their child's growth and development. Sign-up sheets will be available on Wednesday, January 14th next to the sign in/out sheets. 

Reminder: We will be closed on Monday, 1/19 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Elementary School

TK/Kindergarten Broadway Showcase Auditions will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, January 13th, 3:15-4:00 PM in the VCHS Legacy Chapel. Audition forms are available HERE and at the VCES office.

January 14 - 6th Grade students will take a field trip to the middle school campus to experience a middle school chapel and enjoy lunch on the middle school campus.

Coding Class: Do you want your child to learn how to code? Come check out the beginner courses for newbie coders and experienced coders for grades 2-5. Classes will be held on Thursdays - 3:00-4:00 PM, beginning 1/15 for six weeks at VCES. Skatedogs Mobile Skateboard Park will be offering an 8-session class for students in K-6th at the elementary campus on Fridays, beginning 1/16. Information and registration forms may be found here. Class space is limited and early registration is recommended.

Chess Wizards - The after-school chess class for students in grades K-6th will be held on Tuesdays on the VCES campus beginning on 1/13 through 3/24, 3:00-4:00 PM. Information and registration can be found here. Information and registration can be found here.

Congratulations Team 1711, the Dust Busterz on a great performance at the La Cañada Regional. They competed with 37 other teams, finishing 3rd in Robot Games and earning the Runner-Up Champions Trophy (2nd place). The team earned one of six spots to compete in the So Cal Champions Competition on 1/18. Thanks to our awesome coaches and parents for their support and encouragement.

MAPS Testing for students in grades K-6th will take place 1/19 - 2/6. Testing will be at various times throughout the day depending on the classroom schedule. Please make sure your student gets a good night's rest, eats breakfast, and arrives at school on time.

Spirit Day - Pajama Day, Friday, January 30. Come dressed in your favorite jammies! Spirit Day is optional. If you choose not to participate, please be in uniform. Here is the flyer.

Students in grades 5-8 are invited to participate in the upcoming Fine Arts Festival. Students may participate by playing their band/orchestra instrument, singing, or playing a piano solo. All tryout participants will perform at the VCES campus on 2/10, between 3:00-5:00 PM. The best performances will represent VCS at the Interscholastic Fine Arts Festival, on 02/26, at CrossPoint Church in Chino. Students from other Southern California Christian schools will be participating as well. Students and parents can find out more from their music teacher.

Service Hours Opportunity: Do you enjoy listening to students perform? Parents are needed as door monitors for the Fine Arts Festival tryouts Tuesday, 2/10, 2:30-5:30 PM at the elementary campus. Please email Miss Peppel at npeppel@vcschools.org, if you are available to help.

As we head into the colder months, please help us ensure students are dressed warmly and in compliance with our VCS dress code:

  • Outerwear: If clothing goes over the head, it must be a VCS uniform item.
  • Zip-Up Jackets: If it zips up, VCS gear is highly recommended but not required.
  • Label Everything: PLEASE LABEL ALL OUTERWEAR WITH YOUR CHILD’S FIRST & LAST NAME.
  • Leggings/Jeggings: Leggings or jeggings are not permitted unless worn under a VCS uniform skirt or uniform shorts.
  • Approved Bottoms: For examples of dress-code-approved bottoms, visit www.normansuniforms.com.
  • Thank you for helping us maintain a consistent and polished appearance on campus!

Lost and Found - Please have your child check the Lost and Found for any items they may be missing. Any items leftover after January 24th will be donated to the VCS Pep Squad for their used uniform sale.

Pop Tabs: We are partnering with The Ronald McDonald House to help families in their time of need by collecting Pop Tabs. Students may bring in their pop tabs at any time.

Middle School

Parents, please remind your children to cross the street only where our crossing guard is located. Pick-up and drop-off times can get very chaotic, and the safety of our students is always our highest priority. Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe.

Parents/Guardians, your students' 2nd quarter grades were finalized on Dec 19, 2025. You should have received an email before Christmas with the report attached. You can also access the grade report using your parent account in PowerSchool. Once you are signed in, go to "Student Reports" on the left. Please contact the middle school office if you have any questions.

Our winter sports season has begun!  If you would like to come support our girls volleyball and boys basketball teams, click here for the game schedule. Please note that dates and times are subject to change. If weather prevents us from practicing or playing games, notifications will be sent after 12:00 PM on the day of the game or practice.

Report Cards - were mailed home via USPS Mail last week and an email was sent home on Wednesday, 1/7 with more information about the report cards and transcripts. If you missed either of those, please email hsinfo@vcschools.org.

Second Semester Schedules: Need to adjust your schedule? Use the main PowerSchool webpage to see which electives are closed and which are available. Contact Mrs. Gardner or your counselor if you want to make any changes to your schedule. The deadline to add new classes is tomorrow, Tuesday, 1/13.

Senior Parents - The next senior off campus lunch is this Friday, 1/16. Please remind your students to drive carefully, plan ahead for where they will eat, and order ahead if possible. Students who return late will forfeit the privilege of leaving campus for the next senior off campus lunch.

Students leaving school early - Parents, PLEASE try to give the attendance office at least an hour notice, if not more, before picking up your student. The advantage of calling ahead or emailing hsattendance@vcschools.org is that your student can be ready and waiting when you pick them up, and the school can minimize the amount of class interruptions for students and teachers that go on during the school day. VCS wishes you a Merry Christmas, celebrating the joy and peace of knowing Jesus as our Savior. Christmas Break begins Thursday, 12/18 with 11:30 AM dismissal. (No school for HS students Thursday, 12/18, unless they are making up for an exam.) Bus service will run at 11:30 AM. Classes resume on Monday, January 5, 2026. All campus offices will close Thursday, 12/18 at 12:00 PM and open again Monday, 1/5/26.
 
 
Thank you to all the families who came to the Cocoa and Carols program last week. We are so thrilled to share the joy of the season with you. Thanks to all our students who shared the gift of music and to all the parents who volunteered to help make this evening a blessing. Thanks to all of our music teachers for making this a special memory. 
 
 

The Business office will have very limited hours between Tuesday, December 23 and Thursday, January 1. However, it is fully open on Monday, December 22nd and Friday, January 2.

 

Young Alumni Day: Come back to visit us on Friday, January 2nd, 6:30-7:30 PM in the SSB and you are invited to the basketball and soccer games! We will have drawings for prizes and it will be an open house environment with light refreshments being served. We would love to see you!

Broadway Showcase 2026 audition results for all campuses will be released on Thursday, December 18th at 3:00 PM. Results will be sent via direct email to all who participated in auditions.

 

The VCS Annual Fund Drive is a critical component of VCS's fundraising needs. The VCS Board of Directors and five generous donors are putting up a $130,000 match. We could use your help. Please consider giving to the Annual Fund. All donations are tax-deductible, and you can give at www.vcschools.org/give.

 

Save the date, Friday, February 20, for the Annual School Fundraiser and Auction. Tickets go on sale 12/15. We are looking for live auction items. The VC Military EDDGE Scholarship Fund was announced last week in an email from Development Director, Brian Petteys. We are very excited to offer this generous scholarship to all VC families with a parent or guardian who is an active member of the US military, a veteran, honorably discharged, or a reservist. Click HERE to apply for the scholarship. 

The VCS Board of Directors is seeking nominees for 2026-27. Broadway Showcase 2026 audition results for all campuses will be released on Thursday, December 18th at 3:00 PM. Results will be sent via direct email to all who participated in auditions.

Second Semester Schedules: NOW is the time for your student to double-check their second semester schedule in PowerSchool! (Don't wait until a day or two before the semester starts!!) Use the main PowerSchool webpage at ps.vcschools.org to see which electives are closed and which are available. Your student can contact Mrs. Gardner, the registrar, Lgardner@vcschools.org or their counselor if they want to make any schedule changes.

VCHS Exams are December 15-17. Some reminders about Exam Week:

  • The exam schedule is posted on the High School Student page in Canvas and in the Parent Portal on the school website.
  • Exams must be taken during "exam week". Exams may not be taken prior to "exam week".  
  • Attendance during Exam Week: Please DO NOT schedule appointments between 8:00 AM-Noon during Exam Week. Please do not schedule travel prior to December 18.
  • If your child is too sick to take exams, contact the Attendance Desk at 562-865-0281, ext. 227 or by emailing hsattendance@vcschools.org. Students that are unable to take their exam during the scheduled week (due illness, etc) will be given an "incomplete" grade in the course until the exam is completed. Every effort will be made to find an alternate make-up time within Exam Week.
  • Incomplete exams for the fall semester will be administered on the last Thursday/Friday of Christmas vacation, or during the first-week of classes in January. A proctoring fee of $30 will be assessed except in the case of illness. Arrangements must be made with the Assistant Principal.
  • Students should arrive on campus before 8:30 AM, or between 10:00-10:30 AM (depending on their exam schedule). While on campus, students who are not taking exams will be required to be in a testing room or remain in the library for the duration of the testing period. During the exam blocks (8:30-10:00 AM and 10:30 AM-12:00 PM) students may not enter or leave campus.
  • If a student does not have an exam, he or she is not required to be on campus.
  • There is no school for high school students in the afternoon on exam days; students are free to leave after their last exam.
  • Buses will run at regular times (8:00 AM drop off, 2:45 PM departure) on Monday-Wednesday.The library will be open until 2:30 PM, Monday-Wednesday for students who wish to remain on-campus. 
  • The Canteen will be open Monday-Wednesday until 12:30 PM. However, students may not purchase food at the canteen during exam blocks.
  • The Coffee Shop will be open Monday-Wednesday from 7:45-10:45 AM.
  • VCHS students are not allowed to visit other campuses until 2:45 PM.
  • Uniforms must be worn during finals or students will not be allowed to take final exams.
  • There is no school for high school students on Thursday, 12/18 (even though its a half day at the elementary and middle school)

The Kids' Christmas Boutique will be held this week 12/8-12/12 in our library. During this week, your child will be able to shop for family members and friends alike and choose from a wide array of low-cost gifts. Tomorrow, Tuesday, 12/2 - 7:00 PM - VCHS Sacred Christmas Concert - You are invited to attend this sacred Christmas Concert presented by the VCHS Wind Ensemble, Madrigals, and Orchestra. Come celebrate our Savior's birth! The concert will be held at New Life Community Church, 18800 Norwalk Blvd, Artesia.
 

Congratulations to our VCHS football team for winning the CIF Division 9 Championship. We will be playing again at home this Friday, December 5th at 7:30 PM vs Christian High School from El Cajon, CA.  We need parent volunteers for helping in the football canteen.  Here is the link to sign up.

 

Cocoa and Carols is a wonderful way to bring our Valley Christian Community together to celebrate the season.  Coming December 11th, this will be a dessert only concert offering: hot cocoa, coffee and baked goods and we need your holiday cheer to make it happen! The Spirit Store will be open during Cocoa & Carols on Thursday, 12/11, 5:00-8:00 PM. The Spirit Store sells VC t-shirts, sweatshirts, jackets, hats, and socks. Young Alumni Day: Come back to visit us on Friday, January 2nd, 6:30-7:30 PM in the SSB and you are invited to the basketball and soccer games! We will have drawings for prizes and it will be an open house environment with light refreshments being served. We would love to see you!
 
Parent Service Hours Opportunity: The high school office needs some help preparing for the annual teachers' Christmas luncheon. Help is needed before the luncheon and on the day of (Friday, 12/5). Please email hsinfo@vcschools.org for more information.
 
Parent Service Hours Opportunity- VCHS is seeking volunteers to chaperone and/or assist with set up for the winter formal dance on 12/6. This opportunity is open to any parents seeking service hours, you do not need to have a student in high school. Join other Valley moms at Moms in Prayer, as we meet weekly to  offer God our PRAISE, silent CONFESSION, THANKSGIVING, INTERCESSION for our own children, and prayers for STUDENTS, TEACHERS/STAFF and SCHOOL CONCERNS. Come weekly or occasionally.  Anyone may leave prayer requests in the boxes in the school offices and high school library. Service hours can be earned. Save the date for the Annual School Fundraiser and Auction which will be held at the Mayne Events Center in Bellflower on Friday, February 20th. VCS Annual Fund Drive is a very important part of VCS's fundraising needs. Please consider giving to the Annual Fund. The VCS Board of Directors and five generous donors are putting up a $130,000 match. We could use your help. The VCS Board of Directors is seeking nominees for 2026-27. Financial Aid applications for the 2026-27 school year are now open through FACTS. The deadline to submit your application is December 31, 2025. Applications submitted after this date will still be reviewed; however, awards will be based on the availability of remaining funds at the time your application is completed. Once an award decision has been made, an email notification will be sent to the address listed on your FACTS application from variabletuition@vcschools.org - (please check your spam folder if you do not see it.) Award notification will begin going out on January 19th. The application will require: A copy of your 2024 Federal and State Income Tax Returns, all supporting schedules and 2024 W-2's and/or 1099 forms.  Please note that families must re-apply each year, and the FACTS application fee is $45.   Apply for Financial Aid through FACTS

Preschool

Chapel Donations: Your support through chapel offerings was a great success! We were able to fill 12 boxes and help Samaritan's Purse with shipping our boxes to countries around the world! What a fun experience for our preschool children. Check out the pictures on the office window.

See's Candies: Preschool is selling Sees' Candies! This is a sweet way to support our school while sharing delicious treats with friends and family. Order form must be returned by this Thursday, 12/4, 10:00 AM.

Christmas Program: Please join us on Friday, 12/12 at 6:00 PM as our preschool children share the joy of Christmas through song and poem. Desserts and Cocoa will be served after the performance. (Children may be dropped off in their classroom at 5:45 PM). Have the children dressed in their Christmas best!

Parent Service Hours Opportunity: Earn service hours by donating homemade cookies, or help with set-up/serve/clean-up at our Christmas program desserts and cocoa on 12/12. Check your email for the Sign-Up Genius that was sent out today.

Elementary School

5th & 6th Grade Athletics: We are in need of two adult Boys Basketball coaches and two Girls Volleyball coaches. These are paid positions! If you are interested, please email Danette Teays at dteays@vcschools.org  

The Kid's Christmas Boutique will be held 12/8-12/12 in our library. During this week, your child will be able to shop for family members and friends alike and choose from a wide array of low-cost gifts. A designated time slot is assigned to each class for shopping. Gifts are priced very reasonably, every single gift is under $10, with the vast majority $7 and under! Please remember that there is no obligation to buy or to participate. Classroom schedules are listed here. More information and details will be sent home with students this week along with order envelopes.

Please join us Tuesday, December 9th as we welcome the Christmas season with our upcoming music events: Kindergarten will share the festive carols they've been learning at 6:30 PM at Bell One CRC. Followed by our 3rd Graders singing their musical Christmas in KidCity beginning at 7:30 PM. We're looking forward to sharing this event with you at Bell One CRC 17603 Ardmore Ave, Bellflower.

4th Grade Students will be going to the Adobe Museum on 12/10 (Mrs. Haugh & Mrs. Brouwer's students) and 12/11 (Mrs. Do Couto & Miss Van Hofwegen's students).

3rd Grade will be going to the Natural History Museum on 12/12.

Festive Christmas Spirit Day - Thursday, 12/18. Show your school spirit by dressing in your best Holly Jolly clothes! Spirit Day is optional. If you choose not to participate, please be in uniform.

VCES is looking forward to spreading joy this holiday season by partnering with Kingdom Causes for the Bellflower Community Christmas Toy Store. This toy drive gives parents in the community an opportunity to purchase toys for their kids at a significantly discounted price. More information can be found here. Please see this link for the registry list.  

Way to go, Robotics Team 1711!  They earned the Motivate Award, finished 8th in Robot Games, and will advance to Regionals in December.

The Parent Association needs volunteers to work the Christmas Boutique! Opportunities include set-up on 12/5, daily sales assistance 12/8-12/12 (so much fun!), and/or clean-up on 12/12. Sign up HERE.

As we head into the colder months, please help us ensure students are dressed warmly and in compliance with our VCS dress code:

  • Outerwear: If clothing goes over the head, it must be a VCS uniform item.
  • Zip-Up Jackets: If it zips up, VCS gear is highly recommended but not required.
  • Label Everything: PLEASE LABEL ALL OUTERWEAR WITH YOUR CHILD’S FIRST & LAST NAME.
  • Leggings/Jeggings: Leggings or jeggings are not permitted unless worn under a VCS uniform skirt or uniform shorts.
  • Approved Bottoms: For examples of dress-code-approved bottoms, visit www.normansuniforms.com.
  • Thank you for helping us maintain a consistent and polished appearance on campus!

Every student at VCES will receive a yearbook. If you are looking for a creative way to tell your student, “I love you and I’m proud of you", a recognition ad can be placed in the yearbook here. Yearbook recognition ads will be accepted until 12/1, space is limited and on a first come first serve basis.

Coding Class: Do you want your child to learn how to code? Come check out the beginner courses for newbie coders and experienced coders for grades 2-5. Classes will be held on Thursdays - 3:00-4:00 PM, beginning 1/15/26 for six weeks at VCES. Lost and Found - Please have your child check the Lost and Found for any items they may be missing. Any items leftover after December 18 will be donated to Affordable Treasures.

Pop Tabs: We are partnering with The Ronald McDonald House to help families in their time of need by collecting Pop Tabs. Students may bring in their pop tabs at any time.

Middle School

Thank you to all who came out to support our middle school actors in their play, George Washington Ate My Homework. Your support and encouragement means so much to our students!

Service Hour Opportunity - We need parent volunteers to help direct traffic before school (from 7:50 - 8:15 AM) and after school from (2:40 - 3:05 PM). If you would like to volunteer, please email the middle school office at vcmsoffice@vcschools.org.

Long Beach Christmas Pageant - Sunday, 12/7 - The VCMS Handbells will be playing from 7:00-8:30 PM at Long Beach Christian Reformed Church, 5559 E Wardlow Rd, Long Beach. Five neighboring churches set up outdoor scenes to reflect the Christmas story - complete with live actors and live animals. All are invited to attend this free event! 

December Hot Lunch - Menus/Order forms were sent home with students on Friday, 11/14. Orders were due by Thursday, November 21. If you need to place a late order you can still do so, however, hot lunch will not be provided on the day that orders are turned in as Ms. Maria plans in advance. Thank you for your understanding!

The next VCMS Preview Event is 12/11 at 9:00 AM. Tell your friends and family! This is a great opportunity for them to tour our campus and hear all about the programs that VCMS has to offer.

You’re Invited! Join us 12/11 from 5:00-9:00 PM for Cocoa & Carols. Valley Christian Schools will be hosting a Christmas celebration with performances by the orchestras, bands, choirs, and handbell choirs, from our elementary, middle school, and high school students. This event will take place outdoors on our high school campus. It is a night you won’t want to miss!

Thursday, December 18th

  • Annual Middle School Bowling Field Trip. A flyer with all of the details will be sent home with students on 12/5. Be on the lookout! 
  • This is a half day. Students will be dismissed at 11:30 AM. For students who take the bus, buses WILL be running on this day.
  • End of 2nd quarter for VCMS.

Polo and Jacket Sale! Mrs. Payton has a limited supply of extra VCS polos and jackets for sale! Polos are $20 and jackets are $50. This represents a 33-50% savings compared to the cost through our vendors. Payment can be made with cash, credit card, or Apple Pay. Stop by Mrs. Payton's office in the SSB at break or after school from December 1 to 5 to shop while supplies last! All sales are final!

Senior Off Campus Lunch - The next senior off campus lunch will be this Friday, 12/5. Students who return late will not be allowed to leave campus the next time there is an off-campus lunch. We encourage the seniors to drive safely and plan ahead so that they are not rushed or returning late - consider ordering ahead on an app!

  • Monday-Wednesday, Dec. 15-17 - High School Exams
  • Thursday, Dec. 18 - no school for high school students even though there IS school for VCES and VCMS students
  • Dec. 19-Jan. 4 - Christmas Vacation
  • Monday, Jan. 5, 2026 - School resumes

VCHS Exams are December 15-17. Some reminders about Exam Week:

  • The exam schedule is posted on the High School Student page in Canvas and in the Parent Portal on the school website.
  • Exams must be taken during "exam week". Exams may not be taken prior to "exam week".  
  • Attendance during Exam Week: Please DO NOT schedule appointments between 8:00 AM-Noon during Exam Week. Please do not schedule travel prior to December 18.
  • If your child is too sick to take exams, contact the Attendance Desk at 562-865-0281, ext. 227 or by emailing hsattendance@vcschools.org. Students that are unable to take their exam during the scheduled week (due illness, etc) will be given an "incomplete" grade in the course until the exam is completed. Every effort will be made to find an alternate make-up time within Exam Week.
  • Incomplete exams for the fall semester will be administered on the last Thursday/Friday of Christmas vacation, or during the first-week of classes in January. A proctoring fee of $30 will be assessed except in the case of illness. Arrangements must be made with the Assistant Principal.
  • Students should arrive on campus before 8:30 AM, or between 10:00-10:30 AM (depending on their exam schedule). While on campus, students who are not taking exams will be required to be in a testing room or remain in the library for the duration of the testing period. During the exam blocks (8:30-10:00 AM and 10:30 AM-12:00 PM) students may not enter or leave campus.
  • If a student does not have an exam, he or she is not required to be on campus.
  • There is no school for high school students in the afternoon on exam days; students are free to leave after their last exam.
  • Buses will run at regular times (8:00 AM drop off, 2:45 PM departure) on Monday-Wednesday.The library will be open until 2:30 PM, Monday-Wednesday for students who wish to remain on-campus. 
  • The Canteen will be open Monday-Wednesday until 12:30 PM. However, students may not purchase food at the canteen during exam blocks.
  • The Coffee Shop will be open Monday-Wednesday from 7:45-10:45 AM.
  • VCHS students are not allowed to visit other campuses until 2:45 PM.
  • Uniforms must be worn during finals or students will not be allowed to take final exams.
  • There is no school for high school students on Thursday, 12/18 (even though its a half day at the elementary and middle school)
