The Spirit Squad will host a car wash, Girl's Volleyball will host a bake sale, and Boosters merchandise will be available for purchase. Valley Christian Defenders Football Canteen 2026 - Hey Defender Family! The 2026 football season is here! Our home games are a huge part of the Defender experience, and we need an awesome team of volunteers to help at the canteen. Parenting the Love and Logic Way: We are excited to once again offer Parenting the Love and Logic Way® for our VCS families! This six-week series will meet on Tuesday evenings on the elementary campus, from September 29 - November 3, from 6:30–8:30 PM. Open to all VCS families and friends of VCS families, this practical series is designed for parents of children from preschool through high school. Come laugh, learn, and leave with tools that really work! Free childcare will be provided. Registration and payment are due by September 29. To register, please complete the Registration Form. Want to meet other Valley moms? Join MOMS IN PRAYER! We meet every Monday to pray for our school, students, teachers/staff, and our own children. Come every week or occasionally. • September 11- 40th Anniversary of VCHS 1986 CIF Championship football team. The team will be recognized at half time while our Defenders take on the OCHS Knights for the “Battle of the Shield”.
• September 18 - Coaches Hall of Fame. Join us as we induct four VC coaches into the Valley Christian Coaches Hall of Fame. The ceremony will take place at halftime.
• Kickoff is always at 7:00. Come for the delicious tri-tip and stay for the fellowship.

Preschool

File Review: The preschool office will be reviewing files over the next few weeks. Please see Mrs. Sara if you receive a paper indicating missing items or if you would like to update any important information in your child's file.

Looking Ahead: Picture day will be on Thursday, September 10, and Friday, September 11. The preschool office will send home a form with your child regarding which day they will take their pictures. If your child does not attend on Thursday or Friday, please plan to bring them for 20 minutes between 9:00-10:00 AM on Thursday or 8:30-9:30 AM on Friday.

Attention Parents of High Schoolers - Mark your Calendar - Monday, 8/31, 7:00 PM - SAS Meeting - Are you interested in working with a team of parents to raise funds in support of Scholarships for Seniors and the VCHS National Honor Society? Scholastic Arts Society is a great place for you. There will be a SAS Meeting in the Verhoeven College and Career Center located in the high school office building. SAS is a parent-run group that supports the VCHS National Honor Society. This committee meeting will plan and execute SAS initiatives and events for the year, including the NHS Induction luncheon for students who apply and are accepted. All are welcome and it is a great way to earn service hours. We currently have open board positions. Please contact Tracy Sturm with any questions at tracysturm@remax.net.

Johann Schram Reed has worked as a professional singer/musician in the US and abroad for over 20 years. His work in opera, musical theatre and concerts has been seen on the stages in Tokyo, Berlin, Reykjavik, Vienna and all over the US. Along with teaching at VCHS, he is on voice faculty at Chapman University. He is experienced in teaching multiple vocal styles, including classical, musical theater and worship.  Special discounted rates for the Valley community at $80/60 min or $45/30 min. Reach out to Mr. Reed to schedule lessons or learn more by emailing him at: booking@reedhousearts.com.

 

VCHS Attendance - For pre-arranged attendance needs or anything you may know about in advance. (vacations, appointments, extended illness, etc.), submit a "Student Logistics" notification via Veracross in the Parent Portal. Anything you know about ahead of time should be submitted through the Veracross Portal. For unexpected "same-day" situations like unexpected illness, late arrivals, emergencies, etc., contact the Attendance Desk at: 562-865-0281, ext. 227 or hsattendance@vcschools.org  Please give the Attendance office at least one hour notice before a student needs to be picked up to leave campus. By giving advanced notice, your student can be ready and waiting when you need them to be, and we can minimize class interruptions. Thank you for your consideration!

Interested in checking out Valley's championship robotics team? EPIC Robotz will host a Robotics Bootcamp on August 25 and 27-6:00-9:00 PM. Boot camp is designed to give students new to robotics a hands-on tour of the robotics program. This camp will introduce students to hand and power tools, machining (CNC, mill, and lathe), programming, electronics, robotics build and CAD (Computer-aided design). Not into building or programming? Welcome to the 2026-27 school year!

We are excited to begin our 92nd year of equipping and inspiring students at Valley Christian Schools. This year’s theme verse comes from Jeremiah 17:7-8:

“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”

In the weeks ahead, we will memorize this verse and explore together what it means to live with full trust in the Lord — being planted with purpose. Our prayer is that these words will take root deeply in the hearts and minds of our students on every campus, guiding our students to live with confidence in God.

• How to find the Veracross App:

  • Go to the App Store and download “Valley Christian School System”  

• • Students and staff/faculty already have the Veracross app on their iPads

• How parents submit a pre-arranged absence, excuse a late arrival, or request an early dismissal:

  • Go to the app or website, and initiate a “Student Logistics” submission

• How to find helpful resources (ie. forms, bells schedules, student handbook, and much, much more!):

  • On the home page of the parent portal, scroll down to the bottom and look under the heading “Parent Resources” then “High School Resources”

 

Schedule Reminder - Each Wednesday, the high school day starts at 9:00 AM and ends at 2:45 PM. However, morning bus routes do not change on Wednesdays; they will run at the same time as they do on all other days of the week.

Interested in checking out Valley's championship robotics team? EPIC Robotz will host a Robotics Bootcamp on August 18, 20, 25 and 27 - 6:00-9:00 PM. Boot camp is designed to give students new to robotics a hands-on tour of the robotics program. This camp will introduce students to hand and power tools, machining (CNC, mill, and lathe), programming, electronics, robotics build and CAD (Computer aided design). Not into building or programming? Parent Service Hours Opportunity: Volunteers are needed for Sports Day on Tuesday, 5/19 at the high school football field. Grades 1-6 will be competing in various track and field activities and could use your help running the events. Lunch is provided, and service hours will be given to all volunteers. The day runs from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM. If you would like to volunteer, please email Jon Slager at jslager@vcschools.org.

VCHS is going to start a new elective, "Life Skills" next year. We are looking for a wide range of people with jobs or skills they would be willing to share with students (trades, businesses, hiring, finance, home repair, etc). Please note this is not an official commitment, but it would be great to get a database started of people, jobs and skills to draw from. Chapel offerings: Thanks to your generous chapel offerings, preschool will be donating $119.17 to the high school missions team that is traveling to Alaska to spread the good news of Jesus Christ! Praise God. 

Last Day of School: Preschool will be half day (11:45 AM) for all children on Thursday, 5/21. 

Summer Preschool: Begins on Monday, 6/1. We look forward to a fun 8 weeks of summer! Information packets went home last week to those who signed up.

• Tuesday, 5/26 - Summer office hours begin: Mondays-Thursdays, 8:00 AM- 1:00 PM, closed on Fridays

 

Exam Week has arrived - Monday, 5/18-Wednesday, 5/20. Some reminders about Exam Week:

• The exam schedule is posted on the High School Student page in Canvas and in the Parent Portal on the school website.
• Per school policy, individual exams may not be taken prior to "Exam Week".
• Students who are unable to take their exam during the scheduled week (due to travel, illness, etc) will be given an "incomplete" grade in the course until the exam is completed.
• Make-up exams for the spring semester will be administered on the mornings of Thursday, May 21 or Friday, May 22.  A proctoring fee of $30 (per exam) will be assessed, except in the case of illness (please provide a doctor’s note). Arrangements must be made with the Assistant Principal.
• Attendance during Exam Week: Please DO NOT schedule appointments between 8:00 AM and Noon during Exam Week. If your child is too sick to take exams, contact the Attendance Desk at 562-865-0281, ext. 227, or by emailing sdoornbos@vcschools.org.
• Students may not enter or leave campus during the exam blocks (8:30-10:00 AM and 10:30 AM-12:00 PM).
• Students should arrive on campus before 8:30 AM or between 10:00-10:30 AM (depending on their exam schedule). While on campus, students who are not taking exams will be required to be in a testing room or remain in the library for the duration of the testing period. If a student does not have an exam, he or she is not required to be on campus.
• There is no school for VCHS students in the afternoon on exam days.
• VCHS students are not allowed to visit other campuses until 2:45 PM.
• Buses will run at regular times (8:00 AM drop off, 2:45 PM departure) on Monday-Wednesday.
• The canteen and coffee shop will be open from 8:00-8:30 AM and 10:00-10:30 AM - Monday-Wednesday. Additionally, the canteen will be open from noon-1:00 on exam days.
• The library will be open until 2:30 PM, Monday-Wednesday.
• Uniforms must be worn during finals, or students will not be allowed to take final exams.
• There is no school for high school students on Thursday, 5/21, unless a make-up exam has been scheduled.
